    I'll give you my answer.

Because when it comes to voting for an executive I'm not a single-issue voter. If I am voting for my legislator I can afford to be a single-issue voter. Our current President also said that he would sign a new AWB if it got to his desk, yet I voted for him twice.

The scare tactic that "if so and so gets elected they''ll take all of your guns" doesn't work with me because the Excecutive simply doesn't have that kind of power.

I'm glad someone else understands where I am coming.

Lets say McCain doesn’t sign any gun bans, but gives amnesty to 20 million illegal’s, raises the cost of fuel to "prevent global warming", raises the hell out of taxes, closes Gitmo which results in all terror suspects coming to CONUS and get liberal lawyers, gets behind the Fairness Doctrine, and appoints judges with the sole intent of upholding McCain/Feingold.

But hey, at least you can have a flash hider and collapsible stock. What a fair trade.

I just got a phone call from John McCain saying that he is the true conservative candidate.

That's a shame, because I just cast my vote for Mitt Romney for President.

That's silly because im not "giving up" anything so I can "have my flash hider and collapsible stock". There are lots of issues that are important and one of them is the assault weapons ban. I absolutely will not vote for someone who doesn't think I have a right to own whatever gun I want. That is not conservative mindset and anyone that settles for that crap is just part of the problem.

The president doesn't have the power to outright do something sure but he sure as hell will sign it if it crosses his desk and thats not something I'm having part of.

Yes, but he is referring to the overall scenario and has a point. Unfortunately we are not likely to have an ideal outcome here unless Huckabee or Paul pull off an upset and that looks unlikely at this hour. Though they largely ignore N.J., I better send the NRA another donation.

God knows I wanted Fred. But McCain is who we have. I am, essentially, a two issue voter:

    1. National Defense
    2. Guns

McCain is a superhawk, so issue one is done. As far as guns, he voted against the AWB and his platform states that he will never support gun or ammo bans. This is better than Bush I,II or Dole.

I won't be sitting on my hands with stakes like this.

Again, he isn't my first pick. But when it comes down to McCain vs. Hilbama, I have to put our Nation's defense and the Second Amendment first.

If McCain gets the nomination, I may not be able to vote for the lesser of two evils because, between McCain and Hillary/Obama, I'm honestly not sure who that would be...
    Thanks for that David.

If McCain would choose Fred Thompson as his running mate I would vote for that ticket.

I think the best thing either Romney or McCain could do is choose FT as their running mate.
