inconsistentcy in the NFA process = irritation

The NFA process is an exercise in frustration.
    I have 4 stamps all done on a trust (2 F1, 2 F4) and a pending AOW F4.
My first two were approved with no problems at all.
Submitted the exact documents that were previously accepted for my next stamp.
Error letter, required a correction on my trust documents.
Made minor verbiage correction, received stamp.
Submitted the exact documents that were previously corrected and accepted for my next stamp.

    Made minor verbiage correction...

    All with the same examiner.
All on lawyer prepared trust documents.
    WTF?
    Can anyone say "inconsistency".

With the explosion of the trust route for NFA I think it's likely the ATF is learning more about trust details, and thus catching more incorrect trust paperwork.

I would agree, I've had more customers wanting the trust route for NFA lately.....

    Are the examiners attorneys?
If they aren't, I could see some issues with them requiring changes to a legal document drawn up by a licensed attorney.

I had the same issue with my latest form 1. It was returned for something that was done the exact same way on my previous submission. I've been waiting on it so long, I didn't question anything. I just fixed what they said was 'wrong' & got it back asap.

If you don't mind sharing, what changes/type of changes are they requiring?

I run into the same issue with the 5320.20 forms. It used to be no problem and I'd have them back in 7-10 days. Now it seems each examiner has their own little details that they want a specific way. I got a stack of about 7 back with a error letter the other day, talked to the examiner and had them in the mail the next day. So far since I first mailed the forms has been about three weeks.

Did it occur to you to contact your lawyer and the NFA branch, draft a letter and then politely explain the issues as you see them?

Ask for a supervisor to possibly explain why there are so many deviations or issues for what should be a straightforward process and that it is your goal to clarify any issues so that you can help the NFA branch process docs more efficiently and correctly.

I know that the verbiage on a trust varies from state to state but it would be nice to know exactly what the examiners are saying needs correction. If you guys could share that info, it would be great help for the rest of us about to start the process again and prevent any future delays. Thanks.

Great idea, I got a form 4 and a form 1 (All done through Trust) sent back because in the "Transferees Name and Address/Applicants Name and Address" section I had my name followed by Trustee. My examiner wanted me to erase my name and just have Trustee.

    Hope it helps.
