First off, I am a big fan of Benchmade. I have a Mini Infidel and a Microtech OTF. The Mini Infidel's blade has too much play to make the knife a practical EDC knife. Because of the movement, the knife does not have the sturdy feel when using it to cut something.
The Mircotech's blade does not have as much blade movement/play. Therefore when you cut something, I feel like I have more overall control of the knife.
I suggest to go for a MicroTech. They feel more sturdy and better built. I would YouTube some videos comparing the Mircotech and the Mini Infidels. You can see the play in the Mini Infidel blades.

How's MT quality been nowadays?
It seems their older units such as the SCARAB I have (5 years old) is a tank (SOLID) compared to the newer units which do have some play on the blade itself and the feel of the new ones are just not as solid overall including the triggers.
I know they switched facilities awhile back and I've been wanting to know as a whole how the new MT's are comparing to their older knives in the quality Dept? Thanks.
All I can say is when I first got my Mini-Infidel and MicroTech, I would deploy the blade in and out. (what can I say, it was a new toy and I love my gadgets). The Mini-Infidel's blade would disengage alot more than the MircoTech. I can only remember the MicroTech's blade being disengaged twice and that was because I placed a few sheets of paper over the opening to test the strength of the blade exiting the handle. The Mini-Infidel would disengage just because. It wasn't reliable.

The reviews that I've read about the Benchmades state that they're not as sturdy a knife. I really like BM. In fact I switch between a Griptilian and another BM knife. It seems like Microtech is the standard for factory OTF knives.
If I'm off on my last statement, someone please correct me and send me in the right direction.
I purchased a Infidel Monday. This knife can't be considered an edc knife. This knive is designed for one thing only. The plan is to test the abilities of this knife on fruits, starting with soft skinned fruit then into some tougher skinned fruit.
Water melon, cantaloupe, other melons are on the menu after the testing.

I don't know the answer yet. Hence the fruit attacks. The knife looks good, well made and seems to function as advertised. Truthfully if it fails on a melon, it will go back to benchmade.
Lot of money for a knife, it has to penetrate or it's useless. If it collapses on itself what good is it.
I'm retired Leo my last agency in Oregon were carrying fighting knives and we were doing a lot of ground fighting training with knives at the time I thought it silly, after awhile it simply makes sense to learn the basics should you end up on the ground.
