    Expert CCW instructors

Who are these people? Are there really any experts in teaching normal people "CCW tactics"? Is there such a thing and can you really teach it? Is it too gray an area? Is it just really a class on how to shoot well with things to consider thrown in?

While I respect those with a lot more service then I have, I'm starting to see how little TIER 0 military training carries over to "da streets".

Ask yourself this....What makes someone a expert on carrying a gun or rifle? Cops even though they carry guns everyday in my eyes are still not considered experts.. They have accidental discharges and shot people with handcuffs on etc. Or people that have "guns" which turn out to remotes or cell phones etc..

People who are teaching these classes are more or less people with military experience or people who have been in law enforcement or private contractors for a good amount of time. Most of the hype now days are just because people are going nuts buying guns and then people telling them they need training.. Just my 2cents

I guess i wouldn't say an Nd would d.q you from being an expert.. The more I see it lots of these people are non-vets looking to be sneaky sneak (not all) and many of them are good shooter too
    Experts make mistakes also..
The whole remote/cell phone thing is bs if I rob you at night with my cell phone and say its a gun its still armed robbery you me and cops would have a hard time separating the two in the given time.

Cops have a hard job and its easy to pick it apart from the safety net they provide..

I never said anything about the terms used as armed robbery etc lol.. or breaking into a house with a cell phone... bottom line I don't care if your in my house at night asking for directions if your in my house without permission it's not going to end well for you.. Also if a cop as someones hands cuffed what would be the reason for pulling a gun and shooting them..

A instructor is just someone who has more years of experience than you do or someone who has established that they know basic and advanced knowledge at least good enough to satisfy a company enough to hire them to instruct people.

Honestly since you threw all cops into your opinion its wrong. I'm sure they're most certainly are concealed expert cops out there. Are all of them. Most certainly not.

I think the term expert is defined differently for different people. To the Army its a guy that can hit 36+ stationary pop up targets. To me it its someone whom has mastered the basics. Not one technique works for everybody but the basics are a necessity to build from.

Industry Professional Dave P. does a good CCW class, but doesn't teach it all that often.

I believe Kyle D. has some kind of class covering this subject.

SouthNarc would also be a good choice from what I hear.

With that said, the problem with CCW classes (typically) is that people are putting the cart before the horse. They do not have the fundamentals down yet and want to add complexity to what they are doing (crawl, walk run). There is no need to teach anyone "tactics" if they cannot put 10rds into a 6" circle at 10yds on command. I am in no way saying that this applies to you, but it does to many IMHO.

SouthNARC and Massad Ayoob are recognized as being experts in that field.

Some good suggestions already. Insights curriculum also deals with concealment and just general CCW/non-mil type stuff reasonably extensively in some of the more advanced classes such as Street & Vehicle Tactics, Close Quarters Confrontations, etc. They even have a Back-up-gun/deep concealment class though I think it's only offered once a year (like many of the less in-demand) classes.

I really am hoping to take a class with ShivWorks this year fwiw.

I have heard only great things about Dave's class, but havent been able to attend one yet.

Kyle does a lot of CC specific gun handling in his advanced pistol, which is an OUTSTANDING shooting class. Although Im not sure Ive seen or heard of another CC specific course being posted by him showing up to his Advanced Handgun in your carry gear (if your a squared away shooter) is highly recommended.
