Both is great if you can get it. Not qualified to have a strong opinion on this topic, but I have enjoyed reading the responses.

Not targeted at the trainers M4c favors....... I had a reply typed up but figured the above does a better job.

That is pure gold. I got a Clayton Biggsby vibe from the first half, then the "instructor" went all bipolar Frank Zappa.

I agree completely with the above^. Use competition ("gun games") as a training tool. As long as you keep your goals in perspective (in my case...priority on developing defensive skills vs. priority on achieving the highest rank) I think "games" are just another training aid...

If your goal is to achieve the highest rank, then great for you. I would probably still want you on my side if things were to ever go south.

    To each his own.
    Going OT:

Cool. I know Lt. Clark. Great guy. I worked with a team who competed - and did well - at the CT SWAT challenge. If anyone is in the region, it's a great comp to compete in (there's also individual comps for officers) or attend to watch and check out the vendors. Yours truly as vendor at that comp:

If interested a vid from comp last time I attended:

Some of you guys need to get your butts off of your shoulders and drop the sarcastic attitudes. You guys can make your points (if you have one) without being an asshole
