Have you devised a course outline? Might be easier to comment on point of interest.

Also, would locals need to supply materials or do they come on the tour bus?

And it was ask previously …

I'd be curious what kinds of "certification" would be possible. My guess is you'd have to put your Big Fat Resume™ ( ) out there for the world to see and let those attendees who 'pass' the final exam use you as a reference kind thing.

Same here warpig. I definitely think there are a core group of guys from MS, GA, AL who would come to a class you held close by.

I've made the statement in another thread that one of the most difficult things living where I am at is that for the vast majority of AR owners/users around here they really dont take the gun, training, or operation of it seriously.

It is EXTREMELY difficult to find proper training in my neck of the woods. Be it learning how to employ the weapon properly or understanding/diagnosing the operation of the AR15. I am positive I am not alone in that problem. So yeh IG this is a definite yes for me if you could make it down this way as warpig said.

I would definitely be in. Like others have stated, it would be a huge plus if we could get some type of certification, as it would be helpful in many professional arenas.

I'd be very interested. What in particular would I like to see in the course? I don't know. I've built a couple of ARs including installing the barrel and both seemed pretty easy. I strongly suspect I don't know what I don't know and an armorer's course would be enlightening

I would like to thank everyone so far who has voted and taken the time to add their comments. Now I will address some of the questions and concerns.

There will be a certificate issued showing that the student has succesfully completed the course covering x,y and z.

Here is a basic outline of the course. Personnel will bring their own tools (basic) which will consist of punches, small hammer, and pliers. Specialty tools will be provided for group use by the instructor.

All that is required is a basic classroom type setting with tables and chairs. An overhead projector will be needed to hook into a laptop to present various media during the class. Live fire range is not necessary, however, it may come in handy depending on how quickly students grasp the subject matter.

Students will also get various references and SWAG handed out during the class.

Minimum class size would be 15 personnel up to 25 personnel.

    2 Day Basic Armorer Course
Course Cost is 400.00 per person

At the conclusion of the course all students should be able to assemble a fully functional weapon from parts. In addition they should be able to recognize common malfunctions and be able to troubleshoot issues that are frequently encountered.

The course will conclude with all students taking a written test as well as hands on test which will include the complete disassembly and reassembly of the weapon followed by a functions test.

    Day 1:

    • Introduction to the AR15 platform, its’ history and cycle of operation.

    • Parts breakdown and nomenclature.

    • Required tools and equipment needed. Proper use of.

    • Basic Disassembly and reassembly.

    Day 2:

    • Overview of day 1.

    • Inspection criteria.

    • Troubleshooting.

    • Complete and detailed disassembly and assembly of weapon.

    • Written test and certificate issuance.

Instructor Bio: This course will be taught by a veteran of both the U.S Army and U.S Coast Guard who has over 20 years of experience using the AR15 family of weapons. One class has been scheduled already for October 4 and 5th in McDonough, GA at the Henry County Police Dept. All we need now is for personnel to sign up.

Another class is being scheduled for October 20 and 21 in Delaware, OH (Black Wing Shooting Center). Please check the regional training groups area.

Please contact me via email (cggunz@hotmail.com) to sign up for the Georgia class or to get additional information. I will provide a basic required tool list shortly.

I would like to see a civilian available course for armoring. I have been to 3 different courses and the best one I ever attended was a 2 day course by Greg Sullivan. I think I got more out of that than Colt or Bushmaster. The rear sight is wasted time. Not pulling the barrel is shorting the student. One item I think would be great would be a tear down and reassembly of the carrier/key, just because it seems that many people are afraid to touch it but will pull a barrel. It doesn't make much sense to me.

I am confident that no one will feel shorted in my class. It will be a learning experience.

I paid out of pocket for the Colt course, if one was in Northern VA or Eastern NC, I would go to it.
