    Can = no-go, would you consider a KX3?

Background: I'm in the final stages of picking out a 10.5" upper (stamp finally came today). Rifle is for <200yards, range fun, home defense, carbine class. Here in MA you can not own suppressors. I have had great luck with my noveske 14.5 and will probably buy another upper from them.

Several years ago, I fired an SBR with a noveske pig on it (I'm not sure if the design has changed much since then). I was shooting outside and I do not remember much different in the noise/concussion, but I wasn't really paying close attention. Someone told me the other day that pig will reduce report to that of a .22LR for the shooter (obviously overall sound is not reduced).

Question: So, given that the KX3 adds a good deal of weight and length to an SBR, is the sounds/blast reduction worth it, if a suppressor is not an option?

Well as it doesn't do any actual "noise suppression" (otherwise it would be considered a suppressor along with all the other suppressors that were actually flash hiders) I wouldn't bother.

If anything, I'd consider moving to another state where you can actually own a suppressor rather than wasting time with things that are "almost" what you want.

Thanks, I understand that it provides zero sound suppression, however some people apparently feel that by redirecting sound, it reduces noise for the shooter or anyone on either side. I'm just not sure if it's worth it for the increased length/weight.

In terms of MA, the rule against suppresors is a drag - however, I have a carry permit, a bunch of preban rifles and mags, so it's not the end of the world for me. Living right on the ocean and making 6 figures working at a world class hospital isn't that bad either.

I'll probably just get an A2

I have a DD 10.3" bbl but it was meant to be a suppressed HD weapon from the start. I don't think would want it without the suppressor. While I haven't used the KX3 it might be a good idea to direct some of the blast forward.

ETA: I have a 12.5" that's fantastic. You might want to give that some consideration.

At the shooters ear it sounds like its not an SBR.

To me that's pretty good and might be worth it. When I fired an sbr with a KX3 a while ago I remember it being about as loud as a 16" carbine - which would be nice.

I guess another thing to consider would be 10.5 with a pig, versus 12" with an A2. I just got my stamp today and have not ordered an upper yet, so I could get either one. I have fired a 10.5 with an A2 outside and I didn't find it prohibitively loud, but the "blast" was very noticeable.

    Thanks for the feedback!!

That is what I keep coming back to.

I have a different perspective I guess. If I worked my ass off to have such a position as yours, I'd be damn livid that my local government would deny me something as simple as a suppressor. Imagine if it was anything else, imagine if they declared V8 engines illegal.

Living in FL we have the beaches, I have a carry permit, preban rifles (no need for preban magazines) and I have something close to two dozen suppressors and I really don't want to say how many machine guns. I couldn't imagine living in a non NFA state.

Just to be clear, you can own any other NFA item including MGs , it's just suppressors that are banned. But, ya, it does really suck, especially since this is the cradle of the American revolution

Of course, As everyone knows, the guy that signed our AWB is now the republican nominee!

No. Just roll a flash hider, and get better earpro.

If you get a 10.3'' gun, and add KX3, you might as well just get a 12.5''... So on and so forth.

That's idiotic. I think Mich has some stupid law that allows full autos but NOT select fire NFA weapons. Sounds like it might be time to throw some more tea in the harbor.
