Isn't the KX3 intended more as a muzzle booster than as a sound re-direction device?

How will your build handle increased back-pressure/dwell time?

In this case I'm going to buy a noveske upper either way - so I don't think it will be an issue (slightly increased dwell time). I think noveske markets it for sound/concussion redirection and increased reliability.

The problem is that the kx3 is so long and heavy that it would be worth it to me if the sound (at the shooter's ear was significantly reduced)

How about the fact that the guy who signed the current MA AWB is running for president

Several years ago, I fired an SBR with a noveske pig on it (I'm not sure if the design has changed much since then). I was shooting outside and I do not remember much different in the noise/concussion, but I wasn't really paying close attention. Someone told me the other day that pig will reduce report to that of a .22LR for the shooter (obviously overall sound is not reduced).

Question: So, given that the KX3 adds a good deal of weight and length to an SBR, is the sounds/blast reduction worth it, if a suppressor is not an option?
I'm going to differ with my learned colleague Steyr. I used a KX3 and its predecessor the KFH on my 10.5" guns until I got a 5.56 can, and IMO they are quite worth it on that particular barrel. No, they don't suppress noise, but they do no-shit redirect it, and an unsuppressed 10.5 is a loud mother****er. If I could not get a suppressor, I'd go back to the KX3 on anything shorter than 11.5".

It does. To my ear it makes firing a 10.5" sound like firing an A2 at the shooter's position. Forward of the muzzle it sounds like a ****ing artillery simulator.

I'll probably just get an A2
