    In vehicle preps

I reviewed the contents of my Rubbermaid 35 gallon storage box today. I also made a couple of small additions, and I wrote everything down. It contains:

-JNC660, 1700 peak amp jump starter/12v power source
-20', 4 gauge, heavy duty jumper cables
    -Auto fire extinguisher
-1/2 gallon bottle of water (there's a 6 gallon water container elsewhere in the vehicle)
    -1 gallon antifreeze
    -3", 30', 30k lb rated recovery strap
    -Hitch for D-ring shackle
    -2x 4.75T D-rings
-6x 30 minute Orion road flares, MFG. Feb 2011
-Drop cloths in 4x10 and 8x12
    -Assorted bungee cords
    -Trailer hitch w/ball
    -Windshield wiper blade
    -1 pair work gloves
    -Ice scraper
    -2x shop rags
    -Medium funnel
    -Spout for my Scepter MFCs
-1qt Royal Purple synthetic motor oil
-Serpentine belt (OEM, taken off vehicle, still in great condition)
-GearWrench ratcheting wrench serpentine belt tool
    -Screwdriver/monkey wrench/fixed blade knife
    -Radiator hose repair kit
    -Heater hose repair kit
    -150 pc automotive fuse kit
-Full roll of duct tape (Gorilla tape)
-Adapter for 7 pin - 4 flat for trailering
    -Yellow reflective safety vest
-3x 2,400 calorie ER emergency ration bars
    -Pair of kaki cargo pants
    -Brown gun belt
    -2x cotton T-shirts
    -Hooded sweatshirt
    -Columbia waterproof/breathable rain jacket
    -Poncho
    -Warm/thick vest
    -Baseball cap
    -Tennis shoes
    -5.11 HRT boots

When fall/winter rolls around a worthy winter coat will be included, and probably balaclava as well as gloves, especially when traveling.

All of this, and a few little odds and ends I didn't get written down, fits into this:
Amazon.com: Rubbermaid 1191 ActionPacker Storage Box, 35-Gallon: Home & Kitchen

I also have a my BOB/GHB (first aid kit, glasses, contacts, water filter, clothing, etc, and other GHB stuff), some flashlights, maps, leatherman multi tool, couple fixed blade knives, and a few other items in this car. When traveling far (and not into enemy territory, such as Chicagoland) there is also a Rifle in addition to the carry guns.

Is there ANYTHING that I am 'missing'?

We're about to drive all over half of the country again soon, and then again a couple months after that, so I want to figure out now if I am missing anything important.

The BOB/GHB has a some more clothing, water filter, basic first aid kit, and other simple/basic GHB type stuff in it.

Good topic, Ive been planning to put together something similar to this.

Since you live in GA (relatively warm), have you considered swapping out the 1-gallon of antifreeze for 1-gallon of straight water? It'll serve a dual purpose: can be used as vehicle coolant OR drinking water. Might be a better use of the space/weight...or maybe just swap the antifreeze in/out with winter/summer...

One other thing to definitely add is JB-Weld...its a 2 part epoxy that can be used to fix ANYTHING. It will handle the heat of the motor too, so you could potentially fix parts on the motor or for oil or coolant...a lot of us offroaders here in rocky northern New England carry it incase we puncture an oil pan, transmission pan, etc...it can be a quick fix to get you off the trail. Of course along with that you should carry 5 quarts (or however much it takes to fully fill your oil) of the oil your vehicle requires, as well as some tranny fluid.

    Otherwise great topic!

I have a 6 gallon Scepter water can also. I mentioned that in the post, it just got buried at the bottom. There is also about a gallon of water in bottles in my GHB.

I've thought about more oil. There's a second quart in a side panel of the vehicle, and that panel still has more room...

There is some kind of adhesive tube in each of the hose (radiator and heater) repair kits, but some separate JB Weld would seem worthwhile, and it's small/light/inexpensive. I'll add that to my list next time I go to a store.

Oh, and even though I always have napkins and paper towels I'll probably add a roll of good toilet paper...my GHB has a little but not much.

    Baling wire for sure.

Went Jeeping today in my buddies CJ7 and his transmission crossmember bolts on one side both came out. The baling wire was strong enough to support the transmission and transfer case to make the drive home.

Apparently we are back to not using the search feature and adding to older threads with the same subject matter.

I don't know how you guys usually do things here at M4C just yet...but my personal, general forum etiquette prevents me from bumping a 9 month old thread unless it is for a directly related follow up.

Edit: That link isn't really what I am going for. It's helpful, but more limited. I want general in vehicle prep items for my daily driver/travel vehicle...this covers a lot more than recovery and repair...and I have no intention of going off roading with it. I understand that it's your thread so you might feel some kind of special affinity for it, but your intentions for that kit aren't quite the same as my intentions for my kit. Perfect example: You took flares OFF of your list because they don't help with recovery or repair. If I am changing a tire or doing work or whatever on the side of the highway or interstate in the rain at night...I damn sure want some road flares behind me.

Warp your kit is extensive. If I can ask is your vehicle a car or truck, is it older, that's really alotof stuff. Do you keep the tote in a tool box or trunk?

It's a 2011 GMC Yukon XL 4x4. I got it this spring with only 26k miles and I'm up to 33k or so now. It has no known problems or hiccups.

I have removed the third row seating and stored it in the house. The tote rides in the back between the back of the second row seat and the a cargo bar.

Sounds like a nice ride. Any idea what your kit weighs.
