I never got all of mine off. I have the cut out rail, so any left over is hidden, but I tore the crap out of it. It never actually broke in two pieces.

So I wedged it over and used a small file to clean up the edges. Then tapped it back up against the FSB. So there is still a ring of it left in place.

what happens if you have to remove a Cent. rail? Are those Helicoil deals a one time thing? Do you just get new screws? How does that work?

That's what I'm afraid is going to happen. I haven't finished yet because I lost power during issac that day and I've been busy at work. I almost want to send it out to let someone else try to finish getting it off because it will annoy the hell out of me if there is anything left on there. I'm going to take another look later.

Looks like an FSB removal is easier than this battle.

Yep, I felt the same way. Then I got to thinking the little bit that is left is hidden in my case and it's still as tight as when it was built.

If that's a BCM... you better have a gorilla handy if you intend to knock out those FSB pins. I mushroomed a punch and am not the first to do so after reading a bit. I figure it's hidden, tight.... it no longer bothers me. You really have to really be looking for it to see it and then it's only visible from top.

It seems like the metal is just in too tight behind the FSB and can't "break" where it's squeezed together. I think that it needs to be broken free -first- otherwise it just tears instead of breaks. Like a stick in a vice. You can pull on it all you want but it's going to break at the area above the jaws.

The good news though if you haven't done it. The ring and spring is a cakewalk.

Aren't you supposed to remove the gas tube prior to trying to cut off the handguard cap?

Absolutely!.... it should be out, out.... as in lying on your bench. His is still partially installed. I would get that totally out of the way, in the event you slip and bang into it.

The d ring and spring are off, the cap is all that's left. It is a BCM. It was a bitch to get the pins out of the FSB on my noveske which is why I'm not exactly running to do that at the moment. Maybe though.

It will be just as bad. You can Google it.

One post I found,,, and I think it was from BCM....

Two people, one to hold, one to hammer
Big punch, big hammer, heavy hit.
Once pin moves, then tap out with regular punch.

I can tell you,,, the basic desktop, Youtube method is not going to work.

That's what I thought but my BCM thought otherwise. Luckily Lowes will give you a new set of Bostitch punches on the spot no matter how many you go through lol. Trust me just cut the damn thing off.
