    Xs offset sights as bois

I am building a sort of recce rifle with which will probably have a Leopold 1.5-5 or similar scope on it. It will be one of my go to guns and instead of having normal 12oclock backup irons I would like to use the XS offset sights as quick acquisition sights for CQB situations and low light short range environments. I would like be able to hit targets fairly consistently at a vary maximum of 100 yards in a situation were the optic became unusable. The problem I have with an offset reddot is in VA the humidity is so bad when I walk out side my gasses fog up and would probably fog up any optic as well. What is your opinion on those sights will they work well for me as back ups or will I have trouble hitting threats at distance? Obviously they are not ideal for distance but I feel they would make up for that in cqb. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/156...te-stripe-rear

The XS sights are too low to use easily. I recommend something else.

Im no optics expert far from it, but if your worried about a backup rds fogging. What about your main optic the 1.5-5? I would think that id the rds is going to fog i would think the scope would. I would put the scope in a nice quick detach mount with normal buis. If your scope ever goes down and you have the offset sites you will be stuck using offset sites for however long you may be without glass. If you use normal buis and scope in a mount like larue you can remove it and not have to cant the rifle.

Just my thought i may be wrong as i stated Im no expert. It just seems to be a better set up.

Thats not as efficient. Frankly if your optics fog its far faster and easier to just cant the rifle 30 to 45 degrees and keep fighting vs calling a time out and removing your scope and then fliping up your irons.

Pat I seem to remember you mentioning a similar issue when going from a cold outdoor environment to a warm indoor one and having your optic fog up. Do you use offset BUIS or do you find it easier to just shoot with both eyes open and use the RDS anyway? Are you currently using offset BUIS?

I did have the same issue. I am currently not running an off set BUIS but rather an off set red dot on my patrol rifle. Reason being I switched to a SCAR 17 and I am running a Nightforce 2.5-10 on top and a Aimpoint R1 in an off set mount. The red dot is easier to use and is faster than irons but it can fog. Just a trade off.

I'm now thinking I need to offset some normal sights but they can't flip down something like the DD fixed a1 sights. Or I'm also thinking offsetting some Centurion diopter sights would work pretty well. The a2 style offsets seem too bulky and I don't think I need elevation adjustment.

You should attend a 3 gun match and then you can see what some people are running. Most will let you look over their rifle on the safety table. That way you could see if you like the set up.
