Dispute the charge. You are not in possession of the gun. Dealer won't refund funds. You don't know how long it will be with Colt. You are the only one being hassled. Make them share the pain.

I have the unfortunate habit of seeing these minor annoyances from a big picture perspecive and tire of folks who think we should accept whatever shoddy product manufacturers and distributors put out because, "it's only cosmetic". Well, if we don't make them deliver a quality product, whether cosmetic, mechanical, or whatever, they won't. They will only rise to the standard and if it keeps dropping and the public expects increasingly less, then it is no wonder Glocks won't eject, S&W 9s won't shoot accurately, etc. Consumers either allow mediocrity or demand quality. The manufacturers respond in kind. Do yourself and everyone else a favor and demand it gets put right.

You, the buyer, do have an obligation to inspect, if you can, before purchase. It's so easy to miss things like this though. My opinion is that the mistake is Colt's for letting this rifle leave the factory.

The store really has no obligation to just replace the rifle, though I agree they should have.

Call Colt and tell them about your issue, the serial number of the rifle, the seller, etc. See if they can offer any extra help over the phone?
Freedom isn't free! I thank every brave soldier who has paid some for me.

This is definitely something to think about, if the anodizing was bad in one spot who's to say it's sound on the rest of the receiver. You could end up with flaking issue popping up as time goes by. Probably best to try and get it replaced.

Sportsman's Warehouse has signs all over the place saying "All gun and ammo sales are final," FYI. That's pretty much the SOP for any large chain like that.

This was going through my head when I left it with them. At first I wasn't too concerned about it, because my other AR is beat-up. However those scratches and dings are from me using it, this was not.

I will call the manager when he/she comes in on Tuesday, and will call the credit card company when the charge shows up. I will also call Colt in a week or so to make sure they have received it. I'll hound all parties involved until something gets done.

Sounds like a plan. I sure hope everything works out for you, best of luck.

Since the gun was defective out of the box, they should exchange this gun for a non defective one as long as you notified them of the problem right away. They can get a credit or have Colt take care of the defective gun. It shouldn't be your issue/hassle to deal with. I wouldn't file a dispute with your credit card company unless you have exhausted all other options. They aren't trying to rip you off, they are just not resolving your problem correctly.

They were notified the same day as I purchased it. I will talk to the manager before I file the credit dispute, since it takes the charges a bit of time to post. After dealing with the manager, I am left with no other options. At that point, I will have a bill, and no item for it. They had the capability to remedy that, and chose not to. That is a problem in my book.

Yes you should contact Colt and have the issue investigated as said earlier this could be something that could result in other problems. I don't see why Colt would not take care of you since my rifle is over five years old and the gas key snapped off during a carbine class.

I sent Colt pictures of the damage, with a carrier that only had 5-6K rounds through it. Colt responded by asking for the serial number of my rifle for their quality control people and my entire carrier group once a brand new replacement was received by myself.

I did receive a Brand New Complete BCG one week later.

Well having overlooked several flaws on purchases myself, it does happen.. I don't think any LGS that I visit will just "replace" a firearm.. Possibly others do, but I sure don't know of any.. IMO about all you can do is have them send it back to Colt. I wouldn't be contacting VISA either.. until someone refused to help me outright.. I would probably give them 30-days of pestering them before doing anything drastic.. JMO.. Good luck.. Ron
