    Need sight picture advice

    Just started shooting AR.

Heavily left eye dominant. Right hand shooter.

I have a serious problem seeing the front sight post.

On this target ( before I pasted an orange dot ) I would loose the sight in the black and/or not see "meeting" of the top of post to bottom of black at horizontal line.

I would fire two shots and they would be about 1"- 2" apart, but I couldn't reliably place them at center of target.

I finally got pissed off and switched to left hand both eyes open ( left eye )and fired 5 quick shots at the orange dot.... that actually worked out rather well. But I still want to be able to sight right eye / right hand.

How do you deal with the front sight post "disappearing" in the black.

AM I correct in that I am supposed to focus on target, front sight gets blurry and rear is very blurry to nearly unnoticed?

Also should an AR be a 6 O'Clock hold. I realize drop at 25yrds, but is there a typically desired sight picture, split the pie, 6 oclock, or what?

Going back for round 2 but hope for a pointer or two.

Actually this is the target I was really having problems with. The front sight post would just disappear.

No. Focus on the tip of the front sight. Target is slightly blurred.

Focus on the front sight IMHO. There are a variety of front sight post configurations that might suit you better, including some flourescent front sight paint.

Right-handed shooter, left-eye dominant....you would probably be better off with a good red dot sight.

on the zero target here's what I do:

Maintaining a good sight picture and focusing on the front sight
Come up from the bottom of the silhouette til the top half of the white circle is split in half by the front sight
    Fire

I've zeroed that way since basic in 2006, rarely if ever dip below 35 out of 40 on an Army qual course.

The cross dominance is a tough one, one that I have no experience trying to resolve.

I'd shy away from that KNS garbage. If it's a carbine sight radius... the Colt Carbine front Sight post is nice. It' has a taper to it... as opposed to the rectangular shape of a standard rifle front sight post.

Ah! OK... I could have swore I just read a thread where people were going out of their way to say focus on the target. I thought that sounded odd.

    Hope to try again today.

    This is standard BCM FSB.

Will let you know what happens.

If you are left eye dominant, it's best to shoot left eye with both eyes open and left handed. If you insist on shooting right handed and right eye, place a piece of frosty tape over the left lens of your shooting glasses so you can keep both eyes open to reduce eye strain

I have the same issue (left eye dominate and SEVERLY right handed, in fact I shoot a pistol right handed with my left eye (always good for a few odd looks during qualification). With plain irons just like everyone else has said keep your focus on the front sight, both rear and target should be blury. Center the front sight in the rear and bring it up until is just touches the black and bang! Your other option is to follow the same method but hold fire until the front sight is center mass of the black, all depends on you personally. I've used this for 28 years in the Marine Corps and have numerous expert qualifications. But get a RDS it makes life SO much easier.

You can use sight paint on the tip of the post to better help aquire the front post.

The bullets should stack on top of the sight post at the distance you zero at.
