The SIG 516 is so good that one large M4 maker even sued (and lost in court) SIG for making a better rifle than theirs...for less."

What the ??? was my first reaction. Does this bear any truth at all ?
When i see shit like this i tend to stay far away. It seems like every other rifle out there is used by ninja task force 17.

I agree that the"undisclosed" agency sounds phoney. Fortunately, my new 516 works very well so far. I have only had it for two weeks, but through the first 1200 round, it has functioned 100%. That was mostly aguila 55g and a few hundred 1980s surplus. Looking forward to getting my package from swfa so I can try it with optics.

That is really good one!!! Finally something is more expensive than HK

Seriously, SIG is selling 516 in Europe. I took one in hand... then I put it back and carefully stepped away. If US version is made remotely as badly put together as EU one....

One example: on EU model SIG copied HK anti rotation tab that protrudes from handguard into upper receiver. In HK this tab locks itself tight and handguard returns to zero (I know of SOF users that mount their RDS on HK handguard, because RTZ is good enough). But in SIG this tab has about 2mm (0.080") play and handguard is moving side to side using tight grip by hand. And this was just first thing to notice when I grabbed it. I think it is possible that SIG could also copy LWRCi design... and make is as wrong as they copied HK solution for anti rotation tab.

Weeelll...not really. You need to apply an equal amount of torque every time in order to have consistent RTZ. (7N)

Initial SOP for us was to have the optic placed on the quad rail....until my unit, who was the first to get it in may/june 08, experienced a lot of trouble retaining zero. That is when the testing was done, and they changed the SOP for optics placement back to the upper.

On my gun my zero was off by 10cm, low, the day after I zeroed it. Others were worse.

If you have a torque wrench it will work, if not I would recommend mounting it on the upper.

That is really amazing. if you live in the nh area, you should come by and apply for a position where I work. The ability to measure a defect out to a thousandth of an inch just by touching something is truely impressive.

I can eyeball 2mm gap good enough (it is really big gap, no need for feeler gage), plus this is not that important if it was 1.5mm or 3mm actually (not like anyone is going to shoot this stuff, isn't it?) - point is that it just does not do what it is supposed to do. My calculator-fu tells me that 2mm is about 0.078" (25.4mm per 1 inch), but I rounded it up to 0.080" to make life easier for you, "imperial" guys. Happy now?

BTW I live in Poland, but if your company would sponsor immigration visa for me, I'm all in. If ability to spot 2mm wide gap is in such demand, I'll live "American Dream"
