The job of a handguard on a rifle is to first and foremost, protect the shooter from a hot barrel. Somehow, on an AR that got turned around into it being a heat sink so one has to wear gloves. That's pretty silly in my book. My MOE handguards do a damn fine job of protecting my hands from the hot barrel. It's a poor heat sink, of course, but that hasn't hurt my rifle any although I've shot it enough to get it quite hot!

Aluminum handguards were a poor idea as far as protecting the shooter from heat goes and with modern materials, aluminum handguards are sadly out-dated. Or at least they should be. Carbon fiber is a much better choice. It's tough, lightweight and is excellent at offering heat protection. We should ditch the antiquated aluminum handguards for those made of more modern matrials and move into the 21st century
    Come again

I prefer aluminum rail and since I put rails where my hands go and use gloves I feel relaitvely little heat. Aluminum rails that use aluminum barrel nuts do reduce chamber temp and decrease cook offs.

You can keep your 21st century carbon fiber handguard and i will keep my aluminum quad rail.

The issue I see with the Geissele is its heavy, one of the heavier rails out there considerin it has no rail panels.

I was just worried about heat dissipation for the most part. The only thing I need is a place to put a stubby VFG and a light. I do like the look of the Noveske rail though.

This has not been my experience. Case in point is my Noveske 12.5 with a 9 inch Larue rail. The gas block is directly under the distal end of the rail, right under my secondary hand. I frequently drop strings of 4 to 5 magazines running quick fire drills like the VTAC 2x2x2 running no hand guards but wearing nomex gloves and still find the heat tolerable.

As far as protecting the rails, who cares. The worse that will happen is a scratch in the anodizing.

If you still have the a2 fsb on the 6920, then ill just get the KAC m4 ras. They are light and very sturdy. Im not sure why you are so worried about heat; unless you are taking a class or doing rapid fire drills, just buy some mechanix gloves.

The modular tube with attached rails seems to be a weak link and too skinny with thin material.A fully machined rail seems to be much stronger and more versatile with less flex and thicker material. The tube on a sniper maybe, but not a fighting carbine.imho

FF rails should be mandatory IMO, all positives and no negatives. Who doesnt want zero retention, improved consitant accuracy under all situations, and increased bolt life.

I do still have the A2 FSB on my 6920. I was going to have the front sight shaved to install the rails in question.

I do plan on taking classes with this rifle. I have taken several classes for both shotgun and handgun. I practice what I learn in classes so I will be doing rapid fire work with my AR. This rifle will probably replace my shotgun for a home defense long gun.

I was tempted at first to just put on a Centurion Arms C4 cutout and just be done with the damn thing.

So far though, most people seem to say the VTAC will get the job done for classes and hard practice sessions.

It's a good idea to switch from shotgun to AR for home defense I have no experience with the VTAC, but my buddy has a Centurion c4 10" on his lmt and it's rock solid. Send it off to ADCO to get the fsb shaved and you're GTG.

Thats not a tube, and I would like to try one of those. The fit and finish looks outstanding. Its appears to more of a hybrid type rail. Markm and I have talked about this rail, it looks GTG. I have a spare 14.5 barrel and I am considering a build out and rails etc. All my AR's have a G finger banger, so why not a rail
