CH coming out of battery on bolt lock?

Just some back ground, I have a BCM upper that i built from the ground up.

    Specs:
BCM 16" middy bbl (non bhf)
    BCM BCG (auto)
    Gunfighter CH
    BCM upper receiver
    Troy Alpha 13" rail
Spikes ST-T2 buffer and the spring that came with it.

Those are the parts that matter. So all of this is about two and a half years old besides the Alpha, that is newer.

Recently, because I was researching how long buffer springs last, I bought a white buffer spring from Springco. If I had to guess, the rifle has anywhere from 6-8k rounds through it. Never an issue.

When I put the new spring in, on bolt lock on the last round, the CH was coming back. So I did some testing, it seemed only to do it with M193 and not .223 (all 55 gr).

So I decided to use the old spring and it seemed to have stopped. Until recently its doing it on all ammo and even comes back when firing sometimes. I checked the CH and the latch does look a bit worn. I am not sure if it is the reason or not but I bought a new gunfighter to see if it stops.

Is there any other things I can check? It seemed to be the spring at first as that was the only difference, now it happens more often. If I need to change buffers from the one I have to an H1 that is fine. The ST-T2 always worked before so I had no reason to think it was the buffer.

That's kind of an odd issue considering the low round count. Was the charging handle used? Does it appear damaged in any way? It's possible that if the charging handle bent at the latch it is not latching onto the upper correctly. I'm betting that the BCM Gunfighter will solve your issue anyway. I've switched over all of my personal and work guns to BCM Gunfighters.

Just to clarify, now that I'm re-reading your original post, is the problem occurring with a gunfighter?

Hmmmm. I'm wondering if this is bolt-bounce related. Bolt bounce is a known issue for the ST-T2 tungsten powder buffer.

Maybe try a std H or H2 buffer with the Springco spring?

Correct, this is occurring with the 2 year old gunfighter CH already installed.

How does the spring strength on the Gunfighter latch feel? Do you have a fresh one to compare it to?

Definitely worth looking into. I will see if a buddy has one to borrow. Give me a break, I bought the Spikes stuff over two years ago when I was still learning

Should find out tomorrow, the new one I ordered comes in.

It's hard to tell if the tension is worse as I can't remember how strong it was 2 years ago.

Its likely not the CH but bot ruling it out yet.

I used to own an ST-T2. Everybody's gotta start somewhere.

Chad I talked to Matt about this one, he had the same issue, he said he switched to an H2 and a put a new ch on and it seemed to remedy the problem.

Didn't your middy come with an h2? if not my dd has one you can try before you buy
