    The secret lives of bullets

I'll bet most of you are like me, and never outgrew the fascination of digging around in the backstop.

I pulled these out of the berm at 300 meters at an Army base. Just thought it was interesting how deformed the bullets aren't-- after impacting at, I would say, about 1900 FPS.

Time of flight to 300M is about .3-some seconds. My favorite part about being on this range is not shooting-- it's getting behind the shooter with my binocs and watching his rounds go downrange.

I have found 7.62x51 bullets in berms that looked good enough to reload with. Always interesting to me to see what those fast little bits of metal do when they hit stuff. Thanks Ned.

FMJ pistol bullets look even cleaner.

I once dug some .45 hardball out of a small tree.

It was slightly bent but would fit back into an empty case ok.

I once dug a .38 out of a guy's back ... you could have reloaded it once you cleaned him off of it.

Back on topic, I also found a 9mm FMJ on an Army range that was probably good enough to reload - just a little dinged up on front. I'll see if I can get pics later this week.
