    Mounting Eotech

I am trying to mount my new Eotech 512 and I need to push it as far forward as possible on my rail so I can run a magnifier with the Magpul MBUS.

My question is..How far forward can I mount the Eotech? Does all of the rail on the bottom of the 512 need to be in contact with rail for it to be secure and stable or can I slide it forward as long as I ensure that the locking mechanism is fully on the rail?

I have Magpul handgrips so it would hang over them. Also it is the newer style with the raised battery compartment.

    Thanks in advance, Kevin

Ensure that the full length of the mounting claw is engaging the rail, and you should be fine. If the unit overhangs slightly, it may create durability issues (exposed to impacts, etc.), but shouldn't lose zero.

Thanks for the reply! The mounting claw is on the rail fully so I should be all set then.

You want to try to avoid the mounting claw clamping across the gap between receiver and rail. The battery box can overhang the handgrips without problem.

Well I decided to ditch the magnifier for now and slide the Eotech back wards a couple of slots. I was fooling around with the mounting and had adjusted the dot to my iron sights while it was out far enough to fit the magnifier....well when I slid it back ward it was way off. After looking closely I could see that the front of the sight base was hitting the MOE handguard and pushing the sight upward....I did not like how it may not be level so I moved it back.

Guess I need a railed handgrip....Has anybody modified the MOE Handgrip so it was lower?

keep in mind that the farther up you put the unit, it will get really front heavy and unbalanced.

as others have mentioned, as long as the clamp is all the way on the receiver you should be good to go.

Over at the EE, someone is letting a LaRue Eotech riser go for cheap, you may want to take a look at it. Our issue M4's have 552s. Although not my favorite optic, I recommend running an Eotech as far forward as you can comfortably place it. Remember when tightening it to the rail to pull it rearward first, this will help prevent shift later.

Seriously? It weighs less than 11 ounces, with an MOE handguard he can't move it far enough to affect CG that dramatically.

This is one reason I removed my Magpul grips and bought a DD EZ Car 2 piece quad rail. (non float) Continuous rail from receiver to front sight. I put my Eotech 552 on a YHM riser and slid it forward far enough to allow a 3.5 inch space behind the sight and in from of my MBUS, This leaves room for the Eotech G33 magnifier I have ordered.

I emailed Eotech CS and got the dimensions of the G33 mount. Here is what they gave me:

1.38 length of base 2.00 with lever which sticks out and does not eat rail space…
Supposedly any BUS less than .600 in height will work with the magnifier.

I have enough space to move things around a bit if I need to.
