    Inexpensive red dot

Vortex SPARC or....? $200 comes with three mounts.

Anything better to get a useable red dot for say a year while I research 1x4 scopes.

Future use would be transition it on to a High Standard Citation or sell.

I picked up a Bushnell TRS 25. With a little over 2000 rounds, it has not lost zero and held up well. I will say the light transmission is so-so. For me the red dot gets very dull in bright sunlight. I am also red/green color blind thou.

Also consider just sticking with irons and use the money for the 1-4.

You didn't ask, but I'd suggest saving another $200, and get yourself an Aimpoint PRO. You're halfway there, money wise.

Save your money and buy a quality optic. $200 would be a decent start to a 1-4x Trijicon or as mentioned it will get you a used Aimpoint, I got a PD trade in CompM3 for $250, or half way to a new Aimpoint PRO.

Save your $ and keep an eye out on the EE. There are some really good deals that pop-up from time to time on all Aimpoint models.

Well what I really want right now is the Vortex PST 1-4 but that's $700 with a LaRue mount.

So I figured spend the $200 now and actually have an optic. Then maybe next year get the 1x4.

I just bought the upper so I'm overly concerned about the money towards an optic right now.

I was even considering one of those $100 Primary Arms RDS. So I've already doubled my expense because it seems like Vortex might be a better quality in a low end RDS.

So to be clear... want RDS now until I can save for 1x4...... but don't want a RDS that's going to break in 6 months.

The other thought process was that maybe Vortex RDS is good enough to be a "keeper" for a pistol once I can afford the 1x4, rather than try to sell it for $100 in a year.

If I stretched out and bought a Pro or T1 now... I would have to sell it in a year when I bought the scope.

My eyes are pretty bad, but I'm trying to actually learn irons, just want something to hold me over until I can afford something nice.

If I were buying a less expensive optic, the warranty and the company's history of honoring said warranty would be a large part of my decision.

I have no experience with Vortex, but I believe all of their RDS carry a lifetime warranty.

FWIW I have been researching the less expensive optics for a .22 trainer. I have been leaning towards vortex based on the warranty mostly. I have been trying to research peoples customer service experiences. Being a cheaper sight and a mechanical device some of them are going to fail, so I am concerning myself with how a broken optic is dealt with more so than trying to find a bomb proof $200 optic.

Yes, they do. That's another reason I'm leaning to that one ( and the scope ).

If you can scrounge up $400, buy an Aimpoint PRO, use it for 1 year, and then resell it for $300+ when you buy a 1-4x.

A friend has a SPARC, it's OK, nothing special. Once you use Aimpoints much you won't like using almost any cheaper RDS. If you just have to have something cheap and temporary, the Primary Arms red dot might be worth a look at closer to $100.
