    Caracal's CAR816

Interesting that they make the weapon and ammo in the same building. Other than that, seems to be another AR piston platform:

Looks like a Sig Sauer 516 copy.

    From the article:

The design leads would come from two of the most well known companies in the industry, Heckler & Koch and Sig Sauer. Robert Hirt was with Heckler & Koch through several programs, most notably the HK416 as well as with SIG Sauer as the VP of Special Weapons Group/engineering/Defense Systems and is the inventor of the 516/517, MPX and MCX programs. Robert is now the Chief Operating Officer of Caracal. Chris Sirois was an engineer with SIG Sauer where he worked on the SIG 516, 517 and the MCX programs.

If a 16" semi auto version was available in this country, I would take a hard look at it. They definitely hired the right people to design this gun for them.

Not when it's made in Dubai. I don't care if it was a faithful copy of the original with a retail price of $299.95, I'll buy another Colt.

Is there any update on these? They have a US website, but I don't see them for sale anywhere.

Chris Bartocci visited the Caracal factory in the UAE a couple years ago. According to him, one of their reps put on an impressive display of their rifles' sand resistance.

Thanks for the information. They're selling 814's which are DI. I'm interested in their piston driven 816 model.

Must’ve sold out. The piston 11.5” was the one I was looking at.
