I just got one of these and filmed a segment with it for TacTV- it is a very easy SBR build, which is what I did with mine, biggest challenge is finding someone to thread the barrel for a suitable flash suppressor

The buttstock end cap removal is a piece of cake

Overall quality is excellent- I had been tipped off about this importation while back by a SIG 550 collector buddy of mine and sure enough here they are

Here is my .02 cents; if you ever wanted a Swiss made 550 series weapon and could never get one you need to buy one of these ASAP- plain and simple. This needs to be viewed as a true last call for this weapon from the original manufacturer - in addition to being the only 553 series weapons imported thus far into the US it is a no brainer

Guaranteed in the not too distant future these guns will be approaching 10k when you find one for sale

I'm glad I got mine and added it to the 550 series collection

    Cheers

    LAV

I'm not a huge sig fan, but I wouldn't mind forking out the bucks to grab one of these. Does anyone know what they are going to restrict these to? ie allowing these to sell for only a few years then they will pull these off the shelf, or only allowing several thousand in the U.S and poof their gone?

Brother that would require an ATF Magic 8 Ball. I suspect the importer will bring these in as long as they are allowed by ATF.

ATF magic 8 ball does exist... but it involves cabinet appointments, six figure consultant offers, big friends in Congress, lobbyist jobs, money under the table, etc etc.

Deja vu all over again. lol

I'm curious to see what the 551 looks like.
I paid 8k for the one I obtained from Midwest.(one of the last ones)

The 553 looks clean but I'd only buy one with factory welded rear diopter sight and front hood sight. I can see most of these pistols becoming SBR projects if the law allows.

Nice to see more genuine Sigs hitting the market.

The 553 piston in these is not compatible with your 552 anyway; you need the dedicated 552-553 conversion piston and gas tube.

The aluminum lower is well done and fully keeps the lines of the original Swiss steel lower (unlike the US 551A1). I personally view this as a logical step for SIG. Much easier to produce.

$5k is not that terrible all things considered.
I have rails on ALL my SIG guns, B&T makes them.

Good to know about the dedicated 552-553 conversion kit, really helps reinforce my decision.

Just not crazy about the new Swiss SIG. I'm glad the option exists, but I'm glad I don't need it. So I'm happy in nostalgia land, after all the SIGs I have were the ones I was drooling over when I was 12 reading about them.

I have B&T optic rails on my SIGs as well, but the welded picatinney rail is a better option for optics mounting IMO.

Problem is that the 552-553 conversion kit is around $1500 from CO Gun Sales IF they have it in stock.

IMHO it isn't worth it because of the bare muzzle. If it was factory threaded, that would be another story.

I don't think I shoot well enough for their to be a discernible difference.
