The B&T rail panels for the hand guard are no longer made. However, since rails are standard, you can by Magpul MOE panels of the correct size and they bolt right onto the sides (they clear the barrel inside too).

The "old" version of the 553 with diopters does not have ambi sling hooks. The rail top version has sling hooks for a lefty (on the right side). You can get universal sling loops at stores like Blue Force and can run a single point sling.

Shooting with the B&T rail mount and a red dot, the Sig Romeo 5 high mount allows you to still use the diopters but the site is too high for a cheek weld. Personal preference but aside from the picture here I run mine with just the diopters and no red dot.

The clear mags pictured I purchased from a vendor that is selling out the last of their inventory. They are labeled "Dominion Defense" and appear to be made of the same material as original Sig. I bought them to use as shooters. Mags will be tough to get.

The weapon is solid! Best feeling AK-type weapon I have fired. I'm not crazy about the two stage trigger (I prefer single stage). Something like an HK roller lock rifle has to me a still better recoil impulse but this is still a joy to shoot. I trade between this and an AR type MK18 for my favorites. As a lefty I found the HK53 charging handle difficult to manipulate but my favorite of all rifles goes between the MP5 pattern and MK18 (like an SR-15 CQB).

Beautiful rifle. The Dominion mags are well made. They are made in Asia somewhere reportedly using molds bought from
Switzerland. I have a few of the black and clear. They are very expensive at current pricing. Thankfully I stocked up on Swiss 55x mags from 2004 to about 2012.

The Dominion's look good. I believe I heard they were made in Malaysia or Singapore. I got into the SIG game early as well and am glad I stocked up when they were 20 bucks apiece...

I used to run a SP1 with a carry handle mounted rail that had a 1" riser so that I could use the see thru mount for my iron sights under the scope. It was more of a chin weld than a cheek weld.

This suggests they are made by Norinco in China:

Whether this is accurate is anyone’s guess.

I bought mine as "kits" from a Canadian source. I have more SIG mags than DD mags but so far no trouble with the DD mags and they were very affordable before factory SIG mags started becoming plentiful and affordable.

I bought mine around 08 or so with a bunch of Swiss SIG parts and Swiss mags from a fellow SIG collector. I’ve never shot the DD mags. They are more a curio. I shoot my beater LE trade-in Swiss mags.

My 550 pistol should be here today. I guess now begins the process of trying to find some mags. I ordered a brace adaptor (hopefully that stays legal in some form or another). Now to try and find enough parts to make it 922R compliant. Do enough American parts exists to make this happen?

Also, y'all know of any good place to find a few mags (don't care about capacity)?

That's great news. You might consider removing the roll pin and installing a stock at some point.

I have an order of mags coming from JDI (which might be his last for a while) and then also purchased additional mags (clear ones) from https://www.p2tactical.com/sig55x-withoutlockingtabs

Greg, by my count the 55X series has 16 foreign parts, 15 if the flash hider is permanently attached or built in to the barrel. I've used US made hammers, triggers and sear. The hammers and sears are available from shootingsight.com.

Alternatively, you can get a hammer and sear from a US Sig 556 rifle. You'll have to get the trigger from a US made Sig 556 rifle. They were once available as parts, but are no longer. Don't worry about the triggers being US made. They are dead ringers for the Swiss factory triggers, so much in fact that I wouldn't believe they were US made except for the fact that the ones I purchased came individually packaged in Sig bags that say Made in USA. I purchased other Sig 556 parts that indicated they were made in other countries.

If you replace those three and the flash hider if necessary, you'll still need two parts. The magazine follower and floor plate are the obvious candidates. I've seen US ones for sale on GunBroker in the past by Colorado Gun Sales, but they don't currently seem to be offering them. I recently purchased a really nice 3D printer. I'll make them as soon as I can get a drawing. If someone can send me a drawing, I'll make them US followers and floor plates.

I also found this company (GSdesigns) that may ship to the US. Pretty neat creations with an ACR stock adapter and AR mag adapter.
