    Southnarc's ECQC Training Tips Needed

will be going to Shivworks/Sountnarc's ECQC class in 2 weeks. This is my first time with Southnarc but not my first rodeo with training classes. Been with Magpul Dynamics, Defoor, RB1, Tigerswan etc... but this is the only class that is physically demanding. I have a bit of background with jujitsu and combative traning and that's about it.

So for the members who have been into Southnarcs Class. What are the things to be expected? Or stuff that you must have? Or what not to do during evos?

    Thanks....

    typing on iphone sucks..

Haven't taken it myself, though I'm signed up for an October class in Olympia, Wa. FWIW, there are quite a few AARs on pistol-forum.com that should provide what you're looking for and SouthNarc seems to post there fairly regularly.

    Read the AAR's.

Bring advil and a personal first-aid kit. You will get beat up a bit. Quite a bit...

Wear old clothes. You'll be rolling around in the dirt a lot.

Depending on your pain tolerance and the temperature outside, you can keep or skip the heavy sweatshirt/soft armor for the simunitions training. It stings but won't kill you; heatstroke might. Do not skip the cup. Most guys skipped the mouthguard, including me, but I would not advise that.

Your jujistu experience will serve you well.

If you have a holster that fits a G17, bring it. The sim guns are G17's.

You can expect to be paired off against guys who are bigger/smaller/the same size as you. You can expect to be paired off against multiple opponents. These are good ways to learn your limitations.

Bring plenty of water or gatorade.

    What not to do:

Don't give up. Biggest thing. There is always something more to do. I saw guys (and did myself) get overwhelmed by a larger opponent who pins you and takes your gun away from you. It's a shitty feeling and it's easy to get panicky, but try not to let that freeze you.

Leave your ego at the door. Someone is going to kick your ass for you. It's a learning experience. Learn from it, don't get pissed off.

With two weeks to go, it's a bit late, but don't show up out of shape if you can help it. This is a very physically taxing program. It is scaled so that the first half-day is an intro and warm-up, the second day is the very difficult one, and the third day hard but not as bad as the second. But if you're out of shape you'll be hard pressed to keep up.

This is a quick list, I'll try to add to it as I think of more.

This is a pretty good list. I will add this: You will NOT get hurt. Dinged up, scrapped up, and ego sorely bruised, but you will not be injured. Don't worry about it. Just open your mind, try to work as hard as possible, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Craig has reasons for everything, and has no problem explaining anything.

What you will take away from ECQC is that there will be a bunch of areas you need to work on. That is EVERYONE'S result, regardless of their ability and prior experience.

And most importantly, it will be one of the most enjoyable classes you will ever do.

Just go and have fun. Craig's classes are a great measuring stick of your current abilities and to find the holes in your game and everybody has holes. It's a douche free zone and guys work hard to help each other out. Craig has put a tremendous amount of thought into every aspect of the curriculum and can articulate the reasoning behind his methods. You will end up in a deep hole at some point, but better to learn a lesson in ECQC than in real life. He's great at giving you just enough to make you struggle without going into vapor lock and shutting down; plus he's just a good ****ing dude. Good on you for signing up.

If you can, take that guy to your gunfight.

I narrowly missed a spot in the Olympia class.
