Mainly because i has a gas block and a M.O.E. handguard. My OP was a question asking if it could be done. From the picture I posted it clearly can be done. That is the reason that picture was posted.

One can only hope, but my hope for humanity is diminishing.

Thanks to those that posted useful info. I have the M.O.E. on my rifle, an it went on without a problem.

It can be done I suppose.
    The question is, why?
    And why the switch?

How are you going to run iron sights?

You do know that your gas block is very likely to be at a different height than your upper receiver?

Are there any reputable manufacturers that make a BUIS for gas blocks?
I'm not aware, though I was never in the market for one.

Why not run a simple, inexpensive tube like the Troy Alpha over a low profile gas block?
Advantages are you can choose the length of the sight radius, lightweight, and free floated.

Thought about that. I might go that route with my new model 3
