And stop the port side roll... Bad habit that serves no purpose. You will almost always know just by feel if you are out, or have a problem. There is no need to check your chamber after every couple of shots.

Hell, even Costa isn't doing it anymore...

And BCM, please don't take this in any other way than it was intended. Not trying to break balls.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't give a rats ass what Travis says to do, or not do. When he is the only guy swimming upstream, I think thats a clue. Its also a clue when Magpul Dynamics has taken it out of their curriculum in a very open and decisive manner.

I partially disagree. Obsessive compulsively checking the chamber isn't needed. But I've been through some good drills that left me not realizing that the bolt had locked back.

And I've closed my dust cover on a locked back bolt not realizing it. When I went to shoot again it was a complete WTF scenario.

If I'm at a lull in shooting and am closing my cover, I now ALWAYS look at what I'm closing it on. I might be a little more dust cover intensive than guys in other environments since we shoot in a lot of sand and dust, so....

I'm not upset...I meant it as more of a tongue in cheek comment...you know, like a, "but, but, __________ says so."

Training is good, instruction is good, but thinking keeps you alive. Know what you do and why you do it...just like why you have the gear you have.

You don't count! Nobody is saying to never check you chamber, but IMHO it should be done for a reason. Maybe I'm weird, but I feel my bolt lock back and can almost always feel a malfunction...

    Much wisdom above.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

At the end of a gun fight, sure look at your chamber. To do it in the MIDDLE is kind of silly I think and keep in mind, you will never be able to do it in the dark.

Closing your dust cover is (again) a retarded thing to do. Sure if you are riding in the back of a Toyota in East Crack-A-Stan (on a dirt goat path), go ahead and do it.

Im partial to it only due to a couple stovepipes in the past that felt just like a last round lock back.

I can feel it everytime, not only that but you can hear it as well.

I have been told a few times to stop it, there is no need, why etc.

When it takes a fraction of a second to check....I dont really see a problem there.

Guys are always backing up their gear and weapons, check, double check.....I dont see how it can be a bad thing honestly to clear a chamber before reloading.

I DO appreciate tips and explanations though....no matter who it comes from
