Is it possible to use an ACOG designed for 5.56 nato with a 7.62 platform? Would you just have to adjust the zero on it and compensate accordingly?

You could do it. I mean.. the Cogs are usually calibrated to M855 which most civilians don't shoot anyway.
So you'd just have to know your holdovers compared to the reticle markings. For example,... at 500 yards you may just need to hold at the 400 yard reticle mark.

Short answer yes. Long depends on ammo as to how close it will be to the BDC. I was reading somewhere that a 147gr .308 ball loading would only be off a couple inches from the M855 loading out to 400 or so meters. That said, I am not sure, only read it in passing. But that said with some work it should be just fine though I am of the mind that painting a .308 ACOG would be of less hassle.
Ok so I just want to make sure I got this right....
You want a FDE gun in 7.62 nato....
You want an ACOG for it....
Colors being sooooo important you would rather get the wrong optic because its semi close to the right color?
If SHTF where do you plan on bugging out to? I wanna make sure it isnt on my list of possibles....
Dont sweat the small stuff.
If youre not taking fire, its all small stuff.
What is going to happen if you have to use it fast in a defensive situation? Are you going to remember the holdovers? You could write them down and tape them to the stock of course. It just sounds like a bad match and a lot of trouble IMO. Spray paint the 5.56 vesrion, get it coated, or get a different RDS or scope. YMMV.
As others have already said spray paint that shit
