    What gear to get?

My beautiful wife gets "reward points" from her job, and was very sweet to give me some gift cards from Cabela's. So, I have about $300-$400 in gift cards. Using those limits and being that it's Cablea's, what would be some of the gear to get with the cards? Thanks.

Ammo, maybe a water purifier canister/system, MREs, back pack or two, outdoor clothing/footwear

I would say food (I think that they carry Wise) and ammo. You can noer go wrong with those. If you do not have a good sleeping back you might want to go that route.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

Do you already have Bug-out bags?

Negative...I have some gear...a couple of packs, some first aid, ammo...no official bug-out bag. More or less active shooter bags for work. But want to get what I can with those gift cards.

A bug out bag sounds like a good idea. Start on that.

Your bug-out bag should be your priority and more then a few of the items should be available at Cablea's.

Some good load bearing back packs for you and the wife would be a good start, Some freeze dried foods, water purifiers, solar charger to recharge your phones , GPS and such. Decent foul weather gear, a good hikers tent, fire starter, first aid, good fixed blade knife and so on.

Many people like to buy toys and think they can survive away from home for a extended period of time but they are truly fooling their selfs. Set your bag up now with the free money you have and work on it until you feel it can support your family for three to seven days.

Split the gear acquisition 50/50 with gear for your wife. Footwear, bug out bags maybe, water filter/purifier, LED flashlights & headlamps, do you have a quality tent and sleeping bags and pads?

Have you decided if you are bugging out or bugging in? Do you need a GHB instead of a BOB (get home bag vs bug out bag)?

Even if one has no bug-out location to proceed to it ways best to be able to survive out of the vehicle or walk out of the hot zone and be able to live outdoors for at least a few days.

Since it would be almost suicide to remain in a bug-in location which is about to be over run it would be in your families best interest to bug-out safely beforehand as its always more prudent to at least make distance from the threat in hope to find a safer location.

I would suggest bug-out packs for both you and the wife before anything else.

Any recommendations for a good solar charger?
