Bottom line is that 5.56 is fully capable of killing hogs. I prefer the 75+ grain rounds, but have done it with lesser weight. Put the shots on target and watch em to the Piggy Death Dance.

    450 Bushmaster

I got a 450Bushmaster at Cabela's Every-Once-In-A-While Sale. Seems it cost me $800, including shipping. Shoots like a house afire. Good groups. Definitely a 200yd+ shooter. Ammo readily available at various sources. Dream to reload. .452 bullets and I have not tried the .451 bullets for groups yet (don't know why not) and they are cheaper to buy. Every time I plan to go hogging something happens. Big opportunity coming up in Texas, though.

5.56, 6.8, or 7.62 will be the most readily sourced.
.300 Blk and 6.5 are also good options.
Really no need to get into crazy calibers, unless you really just want to.

Like others hear have said 5.56 will do just fine with proper ammo and shot placement. I usually shoot a 70gr TSX round into the ear and they drop right there. Although recently I've gotten a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in 45-70 and can't wait to pound this 300lb+ boar I've had hitting my feeder. I know it's a bit overkill but is going to be fun anyways.
