I quit shooting BH, and started shooting Federal Gold Medal Match 77gr., and Hornady TAP 75 gr. TAP.

Groups got better. Or at least more consistent.
    We miss you, AC.

Yeah... Pappabear and I are always scratching our heads, asking "WHY does Black Hills have a good reputation?"

My guess is that ammo commonly available is just so bad these days... So when someone comes off of crappy XM193... YEAH! BH mediocrity is going to seem pretty good.

Bullet runout, primer seating, brass weight, crappy brass/primer pockets, etc. Terrible. On one box of .308 168gr "match" ammo there wasn't one round that had less than .007" runout... .003" being the generally accepted max for accuracy purposes.

The one thing those jokers do that makes their ammo so so... is they run good bullets with tangent ogives. Their bullet selection masks a lot of their sloppy work. (we've tested this on my own ammo... took the 6 worst runout cartriges and shot them for a group... still shot sub MOA)

You probably wouldn't have any problems with that ammo... but there's a saying that goes.... "friends don't let friends shoot Black Hills."
Any opinion on Stan Chen's FMJ/practice loads from ASYM?

I won't make claims for their quality, but they are some of the best people I have ever done business with. Asked a question about velocity of one of their loads from a 10.5" barrel on TOS, and very shortly a BH rep posted up, said they would chronograph, and shortly after posted the numbers for that load from that barrel length. I have also spoken with them on the phone. Same attitude. Very good people!

Yeah.. I have no personal experience with them. Just with the end product. It's probably not realistic to expect hand load quality out of factory ammo..

But if the stuff says "match" on it... at least a little quality would be nice..

I concur, they are very customer friendly and I get good discounts on red and blue box ammo. As long as it goes bang everytime and stays under 1 MOA Im happy.

Yeah... if you're getting MOA and don't load... by all means. Black Hills is a choice, and more choices is a good thing.

I just think it's a sad situation when the bar is so low that BH ammo is regarded highly.

When you load your own, you also get to pick one of the extreme powders. BH .308 "match" has ball powder. I know ball is capable of shooting pretty good... but you won't find that stuff in a Federal Gold Medal Match load for example.

I like FGMM, just wont pay for it unless I find a really good deal. When it comes to precision, I rarely shoot anything but reloads. Most of my .308 brass is either Black Hills or Winchester marked (all Winchester brass), so I try to stick to those brands when Im forced to buy loaded ammo.

Just an update. AAC repaired the suppressor for $50 and only took 2 weeks. Ran 100 rounds through it with no issues at all.
