Batteries do have a shelf life. Is there any way to tell when the dead battery in question was made? IIRC the CR2032 battery has a shelf life of five years. Maybe it was pulled from old stock at the battery manufacturer's factory.

2032s typically have a shelf life of 10 years, FYI.

I lost my T1 a few years ago, it fell off the truck and got buried for about 4 months..
When I found it it was still on a covered in mud and sand...
Washed it off and it's been going strong ever since..

This one spent the first 2 years on top of a 44 mag with lots of rounds fired. I have seen cheaper ones fail on a 44 in 3 shots.
