Yeah, except nobody is going to convince me that their first/only AR is NEVER going to need to be pressed into SD/HD duty. If you already have a quality gun, then go screw around....I could care less at that point.

As far as RRA quality: oversized gas ports (needless additional recoil), non TDP bolts/carriers, they lack h-buffers from the factory, they sometimes chrome line their barrels, they occasionally have true 5.56x45mm NATO chambers (watch for popped primers), and they are WAAAAAAY over priced.

Take a look at the Rainier Arms RUC, Daniel Defense M4v7, any BCM rifle/upper, LMT, Colt 6920MP, etc.

Do yourself a favor and steer clear of RRA. You can get a used KAC SR15e3 for the price that RRA charges for some of their guns.

RRA is not a good HD/SD rifle, despite what the gun counter jockeys and gun rags will tell you. RRA uses inferior materials and manufacturing processes compared to most in the industry. My personal experience with owning and fixing rra's others own validates it for me.

Your $1050 price is very very close to the vastly superior Colt 6920. (or BCM, LMT, DD, ect)

For $1050 you'd be nuts to buy an RRA, when you can get a Colt for that price from Grant @ G&R Tactical.....

Brother, I can't emphasize enough; you'll regret buying an RRA once you pick up a quality gun that weighs a pound less and STILL shoots softer using the same ammo. You can't beat the Colts with the Magpul package...if you're patient that appears to be the gun for you.

Care to provide any reasons for this?

What benefit will a mid-length offer over a carbine?

    Why BCM?

You can't make statements like that, without quantifying them somehow.....

I wonder the same thing when people here recommend Colt like its Gospel.

Even NON Colt owners recommend Colt first.

I purchased a rock river upper. I knew better, and had bcms an lmt. So i figured i would use it strictly for paper punching. Due to the accuracy reports.

It was the worst decision i have ever made. I ordered it online for a good price. The day it came in i opened it to look it over. I have never been more disappointed with a product. I do not look for fit and finish. As long as it functions, and is properly assembled i could care less.

I thought i could live with things like the gas key not being staked, the gas block using screws as a means to attach to the barrel, and the improper bcg materials. I could not think about anything, but the fact that if they could not get these simple things right. What else could be wrong?

The upper almost weighed as much as other rifles i had. I decide i could not live with it even just for paper punching. I brought it down to my local gun shop i use to see if they would buy it. People in my town generally buy dpms and bushmaster. Some buy quality, but like most places crap sells. They bought it for what i paid for it plus the shipping.

I ended up with a noveske. When that upper arrived there was no doubt i made the right choice. The moral of the story is do not buy rock river even if you have other ar's that are quality. I would say do not do it especially if you own quality prices. You Will be so disappointed with what you receive its not even funny. People who say rock river is as good or better than colt, and the other quality ar's are so far out of touch with reality it is scary.

Sorry for being long winded. I just want you to know how bad of an idea buying rock river or other equivalent brands is.

Well, to recommend something you haven't owned is a little ridiculous, that I'll give you....

I guess what got me more than the BCM recommendation (I'm in no position to comment negatively on BCM) in the post that I was originally addressing was the whole mid-length bit.

Why should I trust some guy on the internet, that a BCM mid-length is soooo much better than, say, a Colt 6920, or (gasp) even a BCM carbine length? I owned more than one mid-length carbine - note, I said owned, like, past tense. The mid-length offered nothing to me.
