A carbine action spring is supposed to be from 10 1/16- 11 1/4 inches in length. Since his is at the highest end of a carbine spring it is entirely probable that it could be a cause.
The number of coils is part of the spec when it is made. Counting them is not part of determining when it goes out of service.

If his spring is a set length and the coil count is short there is more distance between the coils. The spring will be stiffer harder to compress. There are spring calculators on line you can watch hown increasing the coils in the set length works.

Counting them would show if the OAL has changed.

I think someone is overthinking this. I have never counted coils on a spring in the 25 years of I have been working with this platform.

Strangely enough I just use the tried and true method and it seems to be working.

A carbine buffer is about 3.25" long. You have a short 7.62 buffer, and possibly a heavier 7.62 spring as well.

Do not shoot the gun with that buffer, it may cause damage.
