I would change out the buffer and spring. The spring is short on coil count if it is a standard carbine buffer spring and the buffer looks to be one of the gold colored ones out of a Chinese stock. Also might want to check the depth of the stock tube. There were some out that were not deep enough. Should be close to 7" deep.

Also I would check the front carrier key screw to see if it was broken and leaking gas when it is fired. Never hurts to clean the chamber well also

I would not try any type of heavy anything spring or buffer if the gun is short stroking.

Please explain how coil count means anything here when that is NOT THE STANDARD for determining whether it is in spec or not.

A carbine action spring is supposed to be from 10 1/16- 11 1/4 inches in length. Since his is at the highest end of a carbine spring it is entirely probable that it could be a cause.

I agree and I think that's the problem if it is in fact a sprinco spring for the A5 in a regular carbine extension.

Please check the other things that were mentioned as well so you don't waste a trip. Do as much as you can without being invasive. Replace the spring, check the gas rings (there is a test for this and described numerous times here) tube, etc...

So I just checked the gas rings using the "Stand up and see if it'll hold it's own weight" Method, as described in this video:

My bolt will stand up, holding it's own weight. According to this guy, my gas rings are good. Do you Concur?
