Stop worrying about noise reduction, Db, etc. Pick the can from the above manufacturers that mounts the way you want it to, is short/long enough for your purposes, and has a price you're willing to pay. That's it. Really. I promise.

As much as people want to make silencer selection all about the science and technology, it really isn't. Much like buying a car. Stick to a known brand, find one with the features you want, and stop worrying about top speed and MPG as they are all so close together that it really doesn't matter.
    Rob,

Appears to be sound advice. One question. Asthetics and mounting aside, if you were to do it again, would you get an AAC M4-1000 over all the other options. I ask as the M4-1000 is (from everything I have found) the least costly of any of the lsited options by a fairly large margin. IIRC you went with an Ops can.

Thanks for the insite (as I too am in the CCP[can consideration process])

The M4-1000 - 08 is going to be an amazing can if AAC's claims are even partially true. Shit! If I saw an 07 at a dealer, I'd pick it up right now.

If you go with and M4-1000, you won't be sorry.

    Paul-
I have also been shopping for 6.8 cans (passively, as I don't own a 6.8 gun yet) and would stick with the Surefire FA68K or the AAC M42k (they do make a 6.8). I'd choose the SF if I wanted a brake mount (it's all that's available for that can) and the AAC if I wanted a flash hider mount.

I'm considering picking up an LWRC 6.8 10.5" upper to use for hogs.

I would choose an AAC M41k (or the M42k if you have the funds) for a 10.5" barrel, but the Ops or Surefire for an 11.5". If I was starting from scratch (if I didn't already own the gun) I'd buy a 10.5" SBR over an 11.5". I already had a Colt 6933 that I needed to work around and went with the Ops, which I think is a better solution for the .625" dia. barrel on the 6933.

    Rob,

Now another question. Why a 10.5 over the 11.5? I was almost already decided on getting an 11.5" Sabre but now I'm wondering if that's the right decision.

    Thanks again
I should also note I'm in the SCP (SBR Consideration Process) as well

You mean M4-2000. The M4-1000 is almost unchanged from 2007, oddly AAC lists it as 2dB louder (probably a typo).

There is a very large answer to this question, and something I'm working on writing based on my experience playing the suppressed SBR game.

The short answer is that I think a short, fat barrel (.750"+ dia. 10.5" long) is a better platform than a longer, skinnier barrel (.625" dia. 11.5" long) in terms of POI shift, and I prefer a flash suppressor mount to a brake mount, especially on an SBR. YMMV

No. I thought I had read on silencertalk that the 1000 now has full circumfrential welding (as opposed to the plug welds) and higher quality materials (more inconel in the construction or something)... in addition to the additional spring detent.

The only difference between an 07 and 08 M4-1000 is the addition of the second retaining latch. It always had the inconel blast baffle, they just did not advertise, and it was always fully welded.

I sent silvers and IM for clarification....

Maybe I'm nuts, but I swore that I read about the 1000 going to circumfrential welding, and adding a inconel end cap.... in addition to the extra detent spring.

    Here it is....

The M4-1000 has been changed for 2008 to have full circumferential welds inside just like the 2007 M4-2000 for greatly increased durability. It also has an Inconel blast baffle listed. We also added a second spring to the mount which is offset 1/2 a notch so one will always be in a valley. Also did this for the 762-SD.
