While I have a DPMS AP4 upper that "works", I'm in no way delusional about it's quality. It's lacking. The upper is severely over gassed. I'm running an H3 fine with .223 pressure ammo.

Also, the part's materials are weaker. No way around it. They use weaker steel in high stress areas like the barrel and BCG. The gas key is also terribly staked, while it does pass I suppose.

Accuracy is not a measure of overall quality. Lots of guns are accurate. I don't need a carbine like the AP4 to be approaching 1 MOA. I need it to be reliable and durable over the course of 10's of thousands of rounds.

You are going to find out quickly that we do not consider 200-250 rounds nearly enough to say a rifle is reliable. Guys here do a thousand a weekend without batting an eye. When your carbine, and a number of others like it, can be shown to hold up for the long haul, then we can talk.

You could just score a BCM, or DD midlength gun and "forward-Kino" it.

Take it to a 1000+ round 3 day carbine course, then report back. If your weapon can survive, you can come back and rub our collective noses in it. If you're brave enough, take a Chris Costa 2K+ round course.

He'll have the benefit of not needing to be timed by the clock in that Costa class! unless that policy has changed

How about instead of running 1000 rounds of garbage low performance weak ammo through it you run 1000 rounds of M193 Federal instead. Then report back if you didn't have a Kaboom and enlighten us with your DPMS's performance.

So many different ways to go with this...

See you in a year or two when your done? No....

I double DOG dare you to make it two thousand? That'd be two years or more...

Do it all in one afternoon? That's closer, feels more right....

Good for you, at least it's a start! Probably the best option...

ETA: Be sure to have some spare parts.

A whole thousand rounds? Woah, let's not get TOO crazy in here.

Per the temperature issues with such gas-length systems... I'm curious if anybody has tested their [non-DPMS] rifles in warmer states. Would one find benefits in warmer regions with the rifle length gas on a 16" barrel?

With a rifle length gas on a 16" gun your undoubtedly going to run into some issues some where down the line, as others have mentioned. I don't know how temperature will play a roll.
This gun WILL be ammo sensitive (most definitely with the Wolf brand he mentioned using). For what the buyer will probably due with it (punch holes in paper, or occasional varmint) it should suffice once he finds out what will run reliably. I wouldn't stake my life on this thing though. Seems like a marketing ploy by DPMS to draw in more suckers, and ARF.com members.

Is this setup the choice for most of us, no.
Is this the most reliable and quality manufacturer, hell no.
Will we be able to educate this guy? Only time will tell.

AR15smith instead of taking offense to the comments and replying with insults you might want to check out the site some more, ask questions, and try to learn some things from the knowledgeable members this site has to offer.

And lets leave BCM out of this!
