At that point, I would just do it myself. Eff that...
THE MORE YOU SWEAT IN TRAINING, THE LESS YOU BLEED IN BATTLE

Turn in the bogus shipping charges and get a percentage of the money the Navy gets back
The number of folks on my Full Of Shit list grows everyday
I am American
No idea what unit you are in, but don't you have Gunner's Mates? If so, why aren't they allowed to make repairs? If they aren't certified why not talk to the command and get them certified? Explain the latest issue and tell them that it would save thousands of dollars and needless shipping of the weapon.
I know why it costs so much and that's because the last time I remember shipping a weapon it had to go by some type of special courier or something.
However, it is extremely silly that something like an extractor spring isn't able to be replaced at your level. Hell you could replace the entire extractor hundreds of times over and it wouldn't cost that much.

I’m the civilian equivalent of a Gunners Mate here. I just took over the job in September when the GM2 left. Last year I was doing direct support Maintenance at Ft. Sill. It has been explained to me that even a GM is not allowed to do more than organizational maintenance. Two of us here are graduates of the small arms repair school in Aberdeen MD. He was in the Marine Corp and I was in the Army. But Crane insists that any higher level work must be shipped back to them.
The weapons must be shipped with a secured shipper and tracked by satellite and all that crap but somehow they can’t find out what happened to the M240B that was shipped on the first of this month and never made it here. That one is being sent back for a broken drive spring.
I’m going to push this and see what can be done. The idea that spending money like this as an acceptable way of doing things is revolting.

Certified Glock Armorer
And remember the $2700 shipping was to have it shipped to me. I still have to ship the broken one back to them.
Certified Glock Armorer
THIS MUST BE DONE!
I remember my first trip to serve mart in Norfolk, to this day I cannot understand why a box or 20 black pens (small click type) cost 40$. I am still mad about that. I remember back in 1998 one ship on the waterfront spent all its budget at Walmart instid of server mart and saved the Navy 2 million dollars. If the general public only gave a shit
OBAMA will fix it

Man, the Navy must be super anal or they don't trust their GMs/armory personnel. I was the armory sup at my previous unit and disassembly of the bolt was unit level maintenance, which included the extractor spring. Had to replace a few for our MK18s and KAC was nice enough to send us a small bag of the springs, o-rings and black inserts.
And why ship the entire rifle? Why not just ship the BCG and get a replacement BCG?
