    Gas Port Erosion @ 10K

I found a picture of a gas port from a Bushmaster BCWA3F @ 10,000 rounds posted by "Lucky Gunner Labs" on FB.

I figured sharing it was relevant here. I wish I could see what Filthy 14's gas port currently looks like to compare.

    Chrome lined?
    4150 CMV or MIL-B-11595E?

What was the average rate of fire?

I don't have too much info.

I have a feeling that Andrew Tuohy (Vuurwapen Blog) will be writing about it soon. He often works with Lucky Gunner Labs.

According to Rob's chart, this model of rifle does not feature mil-spec barrel steel. I wish I could tell you the ROF, but IDK.

And that search turned up jack on the specs of the barrel.
Also, it will not tell me the rate of fire on the pictured barrel, which is a very important variable.

    Perhaps 87GN will know then.
Too bad he never comes around these parts anymore.

    Thanks for the link.

    Wow!!

Talk about the gas port opening up, and that's only at 10,000 rounds? What a quality piece of craftsmanship.

Yep, that is pretty normal (worse with SBR barrels). This is why I am always dumbfounded when people think that it doesn't matter that the rifle is over gassed from day one!

Since all AR's will eventually become over gassed, why help the process along???

Wait, so is that normal for a properly made AR-15 too?

As Grant states, over gassing has a detrimental impact on the rate of gas port erosion, that this barrel is from a Bushmaster, known for overgassing from the factory indicates that this is not representational of typical AR gas port erosion but rather an example of the extreme for the round count.
