I can't wait to see the reports.
I belive it was with wolf or bear ammo as well.

Andrew is the guy who catches his guns on fire them throws them in a muddy river to put them out and then shoots them some more.

Nah. Regular barrels are quick change as well if you have tools handy. Have to swap the muzzle devices to the new barrel anyway.

Just to be clear, this is not the firearm that caught fire. That was a midlength. This was a 16" carbine, and it started life with a .058" gas port.

Frankly I was impressed with the performance of these carbines. Working on the whole writeup now, I promise that it will give people a lot to talk about

Gunz, I gather the relationship between gas port erosion and bolt bounce is, gas port gets bigger, bolt cycles harder, coming forward faster, causing bounce?

C4, I have very little experienmce with barrels that short. Did you see gas port diameter actually increasing all the way to where it meets the barrel OD?

I'm not a fluid dynamics genius..... I do imagine that opening the gas port on the bore side has an effect. But I would think that as long as it does't increase at the top here it meets the barrel OD, the effect would be less than if if it did.

The orifice controls flow rate (CFM, or Cubic Feet per Minute). The larger the orifice, the greater the flow rate at the same pressure.

The length of the orifice also plays a role in flow rate. The longer the orifice length or tube length, the longer it takes the gas inside to get up to speed.

Why a larger/shorter orifice results in faster BCG speeds is because the gas gets up to pressure faster and with more mass inside the expansion chamber which accelerates the BCG quicker and with more energy

Ned that's correct. It started to happen later when I was in Baghdad and when I consulted with others it was determined that the port was too enlarged. I didn't have a scope on that contract but as soon as the barrel was replaced the weapon was fine. This later proved to be the case with the others as well.
