    Burris AR-332

Got a chance to check one of these out at the range a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get to shoot with it but handled an AR with one attached. I had targets set up at 25 and 100 yards. Optics were clear, reticle was sharp, magnification seemed just right. I was wondering how durable it would be and how practicle it would be in close quarters.

I wouldnt say its combat grade but for the price its not a bad option. My dad has been running one for 2 years now and hasnt had any problems so far. The only downside is poor battery life and short eye relief. He's a guy who prefers to shoot with his stock extended all the way and the 332 has made him change this.
    I paint spaceship parts.

I would say another problem is the fixed 3X. At close range it's pretty easy to get lost in the magnification, and if there is any movement in the target it just compounds the problem. Thus the popularity of the 1-X powered scopes.

    Bindon aiming concept...
I never had a problem with the issued 4x ACOG

I know at 25 yds the magnification was not a problem but closer I have no idea. That's why I'm turning to all of you.

Hi, I'm not 100% sure about this, but I seem to recall Burris expanding this particular model & now offering a 1 x 3 ( or 4x ) version of this sight. You may want to check the Burris website. I too have looked into this model, as IF it was reliable & quality built, it would appear to offer an exceptional value as a "basic" cqb to medium range AR optic. Good luck,

I had a TA11F for a while, it wasn't even remotely as fast a the 1-4's I use now. As long as you practice and practice and practice the Bindon it's usable. If your eyes start to age forget about it, 1-4 etc. will work better. The OP can test it for himself. Use the AR332 side by side with 1-4 set on 1X and see how they compare. As a side note not many people use ACOGs in speed competitions for a reason, they slow you down, unless you have another 1X for the close stuff.

Personally I find it more than just "usable". Couple 100,000 Marines deal with it as well.

I started with an ACOG, decided to switch to a variable, then to a Mag Red dot combo, and now just to a T1. Not really because of the speed due to no magnification but mostly weight benefit.

Magnification is great if you ever plan on shooting at distance but under 100yards a red dot gets the job done for a fraction of the weight.

As for the Burris is that that I recall them being very large for a 3x fixed scope. For the weight and size id prefer a variable like the Vortex PST in a larue mount. Obviously more $ than the Burris but a viable option.

Then question is if you were shooting at multiple targets that could be moving at less than 25yds which would you choose, a 4X ACOG (AR332) or a T1? I know which one I'd choose. If I had to both shoot in that scenario and then shoot at something like 350yds, again I know which optic I'd choose.

As good an optic as an ACOG is, I wonder what a 100,000 Marines would choose if they had an unlimited choice?
