    New Remingtons...

This is for those that might be contemplating buying a current Remington SPS anything.

I am so disappointed with the quality, fit, finish, stock, trigger and floor plate. I have never seen a bolt knob jump so much like this POS when you fire it. I ordered it sight unseen because I wanted the 1:10" twist.

Learn from my mistake. Buy an older Remington or get a custom action. Your better off starting with those than throwing your money at their current offerings with all the garbage attached.

    So you expect what exactly?

Everyone to quit buying remington's because you have a bad experience with a sample size of ONE?

... and the hundreds of thousands currently in service with no issues? Those are dogshit too?

I sell SPS's more than any other bolt gun. DOZENS per year. No issues that caused them to be unserviceable. Some customers run them bone stock. Other customers want them built to the point where the only thing left stock is the action, and even that is trued up. Regardless, they have a proven track record of working quite well.

You could buy the absolute BEST of something, spare no expense, and still have something be ****ed up on delivery. You're all shocked and amazed that it could happen once on one of the cheapest and most common production rifles on the face of the earth? ... and then declare all of them shit. Wow... that's something special right there.

Describe this "bolt jump when you fire it" please. What exactly are you talking about?

Where did you buy the rifle?

Between Pappabear and myself.. we've run 4 or 5 of the current Rem 700s... and haven't had a bad gun yet.

Mine is the only SPS... and yes... the hogue stock and Xmark trigger have to go... but other than that.. a decent entry level bolt gun for me to wear out.

A 5R is not an SPS.

This really surprises me because all the ones I have ran into have been well made. Every company will have their hiccups.

The Riflesmith that does all the work on our guns says... "buy all the Stainless Rem 700s you can"...

he sees a few guns and has a broader sample than our handful...

The do come with a much better stock. Still needs a skim bed. But in reality... the price difference is a wash.

I could have bought myself a 5R and skimmed the factory stock.. but I got an SPS and paid the difference for an HS stock.

    Greg,

You need to re-read. I said SPS rifles.

I suggest they buy an older Remington or a custom action. The trigger, stock, floor plate on all the SPS rifles are junk.

It is not a sample of one. I have sold many, this is the first time I have bought one. I have examined many others. The other Remingtons I have owned where not junk, they were well made rifles all pre-1990 models to include 700 ADL, 700 BDLS, 600, 700 V.

I don't intend to get into a pissing match with someone that cannot see that the Remington quality has sunk to absolutely all time low.

Again, I did not pronounce all Remington's as junk. Just the SPS is piss poor value for your money.

I don't have an R5 to examine. I was only talking about SPS rifles. The difference from specifications are.

    (1) my SPS will only hold 3 rounds in the magainze the R5 4 rounds
    (2) my SPS has a rubber hogue stock, the R5 has an H-S Precision stock
    (3) my SPS finish looks like it was blasted with rocks, the R5 has a nice finish.
    (4) my SPS is made of carbon steel, the R5 is SS.

So, they are not comparable. The extra $$ for the R5 is worth it over the SPS.
