Picked up a new Savage model 10 FCP HS precision in 308. What weight bullet would you suggest for reloading? The rate of twist is 10 and the barrel length is 24". I will be using this rifle for long range work out to 1000 meters. Thanks.

A 1 in 12 will do it ... but many folks are much more comfortable with at least a 1 in 11.2 (i.e., Remington 700 5R Milspec) or a 1 in 10 to ensure bullet stabilization near the supersonic/subsonic shelf at distance.
With that said, plenty of folks at SnipersHide shoot the 175-gr SMK out of a 1 in 12.

Rubbish. Stability through transonic range has very little to do with gyroscopic stability and much more to do with bullet design.
Considering a launch velocity of 2550, which is a slow 20" or fast 18" barrel, a 175SMK is traveling roughly 1070fps at 1000yds. At that velocity the bullets is still very much spin stabilized out of either twist.
1:12 twist 64,200RPM
1:10 twist 77,040RPM
Higher launch velocities are the norm, which would increase RPM even more. The main reason for wanting 1:10 is to be able to run subsonic, or run larger(longer) pills such as the berger's or 208 Amax.
That being said, my preference is to 1:10. It's there in case I need it for something other than 175's.

Thanks for the reply and explaination Orkan
I shoot a Savage model 10 FCP HS precision. 175 SMKs work nicely. I run mine on top of a charge of Varget in Winchester brass and CCI primers.
