    Using ACOG for 20" A4 on M4

Guys, a buddy of mine has an ACOG he is selling and it is this one:

TA31RCO for the M16A4 Weapon system (20” barrel).

    Question, forgive my ignorance, but...

If I use it on my M4 Carbine and/or my FS2000 (which has a 17.25") barrel what do I need to be aware of?

In other words, what make it "custom" for a 20" barrel and what happens if I use it on a 5.56 platform with a shorter barrel?

    Thanks.

You can use it, the BDC will be off by a little if you plan on using for longer range shooting .

You would just have to find your hold overs through trial and error.

Would you anticipate any "hold over" issues from 25-100 yards?

No once you zero it those distances should be fine.

Zeroing per the manual is 100 meters comes out to I believe 109 yards.

Like with an rds you will have to take into account height over bore when getting in cqb distance.

I zero mine at 50 yards due to me not having access to a range over 200 yards.

Once zeroed at 50 it was good to go at 200 just put the poa about an inch lower.

With alot of practice you can get good at shooting it at close range, but I felt like I was at a distinct disadvantage when I used it in the Magpul course. After 50 yards it was better and at 100 I was the one with the advantage.

If you don't plan on shooting over 100 yards most of the time I would stick with a red dot scope which is probably significantly cheaper.

Or get a good low power variable or get an off set mount for a micro red dot to use with the ACOG.
I personally don't like being stuck with just a red dot or just an ACOG.

I was only addressing the ACOG aspect. There are a million things you can do if money isn't an object.
