Handguards?..... We don't need no stinking hanguards... go shoot it!

    LOL.

Had similar problems last week on a build... had to steel a samson evo tube off my wife's carbine.

I hear ya... I could get it together to shoot with no Hand Guard... but I'd have to tear it all down again later to get the final Bbl nut config in place.... I HATE having to tear an upper all the way down.

Markm, I'll bet yesterday you couldn't even SPELL riflesmith-- and now you "R" one!

I would expect that set screw to be loose-- there's a fair amount of play in normal threads that doesn't show so much unless the screw is really short like those set screws. Good idea with the glue-turning-to-caramelized-goo locking theory.

    Seriously, good job.

Thanks, Ned. I can not wait to shoot this sucker. I'll go nuts if I don't get to test it this weekend.

    Nice work Mark !

    The pictures were great.

How would you rate the difficulty of doing that install?
    Simple, moderate, difficult?

Approximately how long did it take you?

The instal was VERY easy. Anyone capable of getting the FSB off is already more than qualified to do this job.

After buying the tap handle it was a 15-20 min job... only because I wanted to document it with photos.

I could do another gun in 5 minutes now that I know what to do.

Taking the upper apart is really the time consuming part.... This upper is back together and ready to test. I might get out tomorrow night and fire the upper.

Why not use an adjustable gas tube?
