    Suppressor damaged

    YHM SS 5.56
2 years old, thousands of rounds
BCM 11.5" upper BFH - Brand new, 120 rounds

Shooting buddy sighted in new SBR with Aimpoint Patrol and 3x magnifier. Shot 4 magazines with and without suppressor to test POI shift at 50 yards. Rifle was shooting fantastic, grouping well with predictable ejections.

One shot sounded weird. There was dust. Shooter thought he was empty and canted rifle to check bolt. Bolt was in battery. Then he shot again and the report was very unusual. We then looked things over and discovered the exit wound in the suppressor.

Suppressor was tight as was the QD mount. No play in either. Flashlite exam indicated blast baffle strike opposite (11:00) the exit hole (7:00).

    Feedback welcome.

    any variations between ammo batches?

    same make/weight for each mag?

seems like the bullet became laterally unstable and yawed just enough to catch the baffle which caused a catastrophic failure...

was there any sustained rapid fire for more than 10 or so rounds?

What kind of ammo was being fired (exactly)?

    Probably a bad bullet.

As an aside, I like my SF can because I learned the hard way that a baffle strike still leaves through the end cap. This isn't meant as fanboyism, just an identification of a consideration most don't make.

Two ways to look at it from a baffle standpoint. The fact that the bullet didn't blow through the stack could be a testament to how strong that blast baffle is.

I agree with the bullet theory. If it happened early on I'd say alignment.

It's at YHM with the BCM upper. I'll report back.

    Ammo exactly:

I had a minor baffle strike with Xm193. I rarely shoot factory ammo when using a suppressor... too much at stake.

Markm are you shooting handloads? I thought factory Ammo would be GTG in Suppressors is there certain no-no on ammo when using a Suppressor .Sorry for the Noob question I do not have a suppressor But thinking about getting one

Will companies cover a baffle strike? Looking at the Pic the tube would need to be replaced also does that Cost another Stamp or would the company Just put the same serial number on a new unit
