What material is it made of? I don't see any reasons it couldn't be beat back into shape and welded.

That's pretty shitty. There's really no way to what happened for sure. Especially when they use the phrases "almost always" and 90pct.

The least they could do is offer you a replacement can at cost. Being a YHM, that couldn't cost that much.

Agreed. I kinda expected them to "do something" for me.

I have 3 other YHM rifle suppressors and the uniformity in the QD mounts is nice. I doubt I'll change to another company if I replace this one.

im looking to buy my first suppressor for a .22, and your situation makes me shy away from YHM. IMO, the cost to YHM to remedy your suppressor damage is small compared to lost revenue from readers like me that view this post. IMO customer service goes a long way.

Why would you expect YHM to fix this? As you said your buddy shot a round it sounded weird and he decided to shoot again. It this commonly excepted rule if you shoot a round and it does something weird you stop and check out what happened. You said the mount and suppressor were both tight and you have shot thousands of rounds though it. It sounds like you should be contacting the ammo company or looking at your friend for replacement.

I had a catastrophic failure , due to reloads, with a stag upper, they mailed me a new upper, stripped, replacement, without delay, knowing it was a reload failure. Regardless of popular opinion, I shoot my stag knowing customer service is outstanding. Remember this is IMO, please I dont want to start argument. IMO, the cost of replacing item is less than advertising cost, much less for customer, and posting here could potentialy bring new customers.

As the op described the incident, it sounds like it was the first round that did the damage. Subsequent rounds made no difference.
To the op, if the bore of the silencer is unobstructed and the baffles are still solidly in place i dont see any reason why the shell cannot be reshaped and welded up. Maybe having your trusted 07/02 bore the axis a little larger would also help. Having said that, i think YHM should have been able to fix it professionally, even if they had to charge a fee for doing so. I dont see this as an indictment of YHM quality; accidents with ammo happen, but they should have handled it differently.

This whole thing is more than likely an ammo issue. Why should YHM be the one that fixes a problem that is not theirs. Did the suppressor fail because there was a defect in the can? If it did not then it does not fall under their warranty. A suppressor is not an easily replaced item. It is not a easy as sending out a new one. Don't get me wrong it would be great it YHM did replace the can, but to expect it to be replaced is not smart. I would bet they would discount a new one if the OP asked.

As to fixing the can, it is sealed so working on it is nearly impossible. Also you have to remember there is no more simple replacement. You have to go through the entire process all over again and pay the stamp fee. You can have the same number stamped on another can nor can you weld a piece of your old can on and call it good.

I'm straying off-topic here, but YHM wouldn't even register on my radar for a .22 can to begin with. There are far better choices, chief among which is the Sparrow.

All good, valid points of view.

I've explained everything that happend and how I feel about it. I appreciate the insights and advice and hope I've left some interesting info for the group to learn something.

I've decided to replace the can with the same model offered to me at cost from my dealer.
