IMO it's this lackadaisical, it'll-never-happen-here, head-in-the-sand attitude that's so widespread (I even see it on this forum) that will lead to.....wait for it.....ANOTHER..... ban. It's happened once. It can happen again. And I seriously doubt the next ban will come with an expiration date like the last one did.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I hope the day comes when someone can look at me and say "I told you so," but sadly I don't think that's going to be the case.

I think your suspicions are well-founded, and I think we both hope you are wrong. I wouldn't discount it, but am trying to use critical thinking rather than emotion. As a responsible gun owner, a good, logical, calm and respectful conversation with my elected representative does the most good. Might not even be a bad idea to go out in the blogsphere and represent same - just don't get suckered into the emotions.

I am not saying it will happen. But, we all know that our politicians are idiots and have made some stupid decisions in the past.
No, I'm leaving because what was once a forum dedicated to factual information has turned into nothing more than people spouting off about hypotheticals and paranoia. It wasn't long ago on this same forum that threads like this would be shut down because the moderators realized that they lent nothing to the intelectual discussion and only propogated the same fear based on a lack of information. Now there is still the same lack of information but the moderators are the ones propogating it and I've since come to the realization that the reason I came to this site, which was to gain and share knowledge, no longer exists on this forum. Now what this forum appears to be about is opinions based on fear and personal bias. And that is why after I've made my point here I won't return to look for information from this site.

And in reply to "Do you watch the new? This adminstration has NOTHING to lose and will do what ever it takes to make gun ownership difficult or impossible for us. I guess you think that nothing bad will happen to us because nothing bad ever happens in America... " THIS is exactly what I'm talking about here. All of this is purely speculation at this point. Will Obama or his cronies try bringing gun control back to the table, I most definately think so. But will he make it difficult or impossible for us to own guns, that's not likely and only fear coming from you and being spread like wildfire, and only because of FEAR. I refuse to listen to people who spout off in a fear and panic induced state because they are rarely rational, and you're one of those people right now. Instead this is a time to look at what is possible and work on it from a logical perspective instead of a fear based one.

I've said my peace, I hope this forum opens it's eyes a little wider, and maybe one day will get back to what it started out to be. A place for people to spread knowledge and learn, not a place to spread fear and rhetoric.

When did the NFA forum turn into General Discussion?

In general I would agree with you but when I hear IG say this is what he has heard from industry insiders, it is more than tinfoil hats. And I appreciate any direction he or others with similar connections can give me as it helps me to plan the use of my resources.

This is one specific thread in the NFA forum. While I don't care to read posts that denigrate others based on their opinion, I think healthy debate is a good thing. And let's all remember that when you KNOW there are those who would deprive you of ALL your second amendment rights (if they could), it's not a bad idea to think about scenarios where work to erode those rights. And it isn't bad for some to consider what their reactions would be.

Speculation is what people do when they see trouble on the horizon. It isn't synonymous with freaking out and caving in to fear.

I just read a Christian Science Monitor article that once again made the tired old argument about the founders writing the 2nd Amendment in a very different time... Blah blah blah.

And there's an ABC poll that says "Most Americans back ban on high-capacity magazines". The threats are there folks.

Can you imagine this country having that many articles about how only those who actually pay a certain amount of taxes should be able to vote? Or only those with a certain IQ should have their speech protected? Lets compromise.

Then a thread in the GD section of the site would be more appropriate. It isn't just his speculations, it's all the responses and ramblings that it invites. Now we have 4 pages of rumors and speculations in a section of the site that shouldn't have those things.

Anyone have any idea what would happen to all of us that have Form 1's and 4's sent in and cashed checks if they do get some sort of ban through? Would we even get our money back?

Here's a newsflash for you. IG isn't God and probably hasn't met him. What he's telling you is all third party hearsay, which is the same stuff he used to shut down. So you choose to believe what you heard some other guy heard from some other guy, who probably heard it on the internet. Form your own opinions instead of blindly following others on the internet of all places.

Nobody knows. NFA firearms weren't part of Clinton's 1994 AWB.
