Optics and Mounts for Remington 700 5R

I have Remington 700 5R on order. Once I get it, I will need optics and mounts for it. For the mount I want to get one made by LaRue. So here are my questions:

    1. I understand that a rail is required to be installed. Any suggestion on those? I will primarily be shooting 200-400 yards with it. Do I need a 20MOA cant on it?

    2. Which scope do you recommend. I would like to spend between 1000-1500 for it. I want a good quality, but not an overkill

    3. The muzzle comes threaded and I would like to install a muzzle break on it. Any suggestions on those?

    Thank you.

What caliber? 400 and inside you wouldn't need a 20 MOA base.

I think we tried that LaRue deal on a bolt gun and found it to put the scope way too high above the barrel.

We run mostly the AAC mounts on the bolt guns we shoot. Specifically the breakout and two chamber brakes.

Thank you for your reply. The rifle will be in the .308 Caliber.

Won't hurt either... so why not have it?

I recommend Badger Ord. P/N 306-06A Short action, 20 MOA cant, ALLOY, 2 oz.

For Seekins bases for your 5R you'll need the 20 MOA w/#6 screws. The Seekins like the Badger's are both Alloy bases. You do not need steel bases for a .308.

Those are two of the best. You can buy both here, as well as other brands:

SWFA also has an extensive line of scopes, at decent prices. Their SS 5-20x50mm Tactical Illuminated is an outstanding value.

    As is Bushnell's 3-12x44 Elite Tactical: http://swfa.com/Bushnell-3-12x44-Eli...pe-P51678.aspx

    Bushnell's 3.5-21x50mm is also worth a look: http://swfa.com/Bushnell-35-21x50-El...pe-P51675.aspx

I use an EGW 20deg. base with TPS super low 30mm rings on my 700 with a second focal plane Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50. The Bushnell while certainly not a Nightforce/Schmidt & Bender class scope is very tough, accurate and quite serviceable for the money. The EGW base has worked well so far and the TPS rings are first class all the way.
These parts all came from SWFA. Very good service and very competitive pricing. This is the first place I go for optics related stuff. Yes I'm a SWFA fan boy.

I went with Badger Rings and Bases in Steel. There are plenty of good rings and bases out there. Seekins rings and bases are alloy. Join up at the Snipers Hide and browse the for sale adds.

As for brakes it depends on whether you plan to run a suppressor. I puchased a muzzle brake from Ross Schuler. $45.00 gets you a stainless or carbon steel brake shipped. He will taper the brake to your barrel diameter, and add a recess for shims if you so desire. There's nothing ground braking about them, but they work great.
