Can I get some help on a red dot ?

I bought a youth sized ml for my 6 year old grandson. I'll start him shooting my .22 but eventually move to the ml once he can hit the target. I want to start him off with a red dot because of the generous eye relief so he doesn't get whacked by the eye piece.

And I'd like to have the largest FoV I can so he doesn't have to search all over for the target. The larger beer can size red dots seem to have a larger FoV than the 28m/30mm objective sizes. Any advice on which ones are decent that doesn't break the bank? Thanks.

Every RDS has same FOV - full, natural FOV. You use them with both eyes open. You will do harm teaching to shoot RDS with one eye closed. This will become very hard to un-learn. Later in training, for long distance shots it will become natural to close (or partially close) non-dominant eye for more precise aim, but only after target is found.

If you want to teach kid to use scope and you are afraid with eye relief, then buy scope with long eye relief (4"-ish). You may also add rubber "cushion" (like used on Russian PSO-1 scopes).

That's a cute little red dot - but this is for a kid's muzzleloader, I assume it will still work. This looks like the Bushnell TSR-25 except the rheostat is on the top instead of off to the side.

Sorry. Misunderstood. Thought you needed a RD for a .22 to start.

I looked at the Vortex today and it has the same issue as the Bushnell Trophy on my old 12 ga. The big knob on the lh side sort of blocks my left eye when keeping both eyes open. I have an Ultradot on my 10 ga turkey gun and even though it has a knob on the left, it's mounted halfway down the barrel and offers no restricted as I can look right past it.

I'm thinking either the Primary Arms Micro or the Bushnell TRS-25 right now. Thanks.

FWIW, I am using (ENJOYING) a Bushnell TRS-25 on a Marlin 336 .30-30.
