Petition to take regulation of Silencers away from the NFA

Hi everyone, if this post is inappropriate for the board, I apologize.
Moderators, please feel free to delete if this in poor taste.

    I created a petition on petitions.whitehouse.gov
It's about raising awareness to take away the regulating power of the NFA when it comes to silencers. Here is the full petition...

    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pet...s-nfa/vV6v2F2j

Repeal the Heavy Regulation of Firearm Suppressors from the NFA.

Suppressors (silencers) are a safety device for firearms. The report from a firearm causes extensive hearing damage and noise pollution.

Silencers have been demonized by popular media. Legislation was written to heavily restrict the purchase of suppressors based on improper representation. Silencers do not "silence" a weapon. Individuals cannot fire a suppressed weapon without alerting people nearby. The only goal of a firearm suppressor is to bring the report of a fired round to hearing-safe levels.

Finland has extremely low violent crime rates and they do not regulate the sale of suppressors. Their use is actually encouraged for the sake of safety and courtesy.

Please allow legal gun owners to purchase silencers without the $200 tax and 9 month waiting period!

Thank you guys for your support!

While trying to dispel the myths of suppressors and the image they have in the media, I wouldn't call them a "Silencer" in the petition. Just reinforces the stereotype.

This is not the time to begin dicking around with NFA laws.... it could very well backfire and we could lose what we already have...

all it takes is for some uppity cunt to catch wind of a petition to remove suppressors from the NFA registry and then make it her god given mission to outlaw them all together... and why not get rid of SBR's while we're at it... and what the hell... lets just reinstate the AWB...

the time will come to readdress the NFA regulations.... but in the aftermath of severe tragedies, with the whole nation reeling with emotion, shouting for another AWB and gun control... all this will do is hurt the cause...

true, I didn't think of that while I was writing it and I unfortunately can't change it now.

If anyone finds this to be an advantageous petition, could you please spread the link! Thank you

While I agree that this isn't the most ideal time to submit a petition, I don't think there is ever a "wrong time" to protect and reclaim rights. Most of the general public isn't aware of the NFA and any changes to the NFA will likely go unnoticed by most. This petition serves the role of getting the right people to take notice of the firearm communities requests.

There are a lot of other very important petitions concerning gun rights on that website too. I encourage everyone to take part in them.

    I have to agree.

The general public has little-to-no attention span when it comes to responsible gun ownership. Supporters of Firearm Rights are being demonized every other minute on the mainstream new channels and right now.... the Anti-Gun activists are winning. People are coming out of the woodwork to jump on the bandwagon.

lets look at it this way...

we can either sprint down into the heard of sheep, in broad daylight, while their attention is squarely on us... and try to grab one...

    or

we can wait until their attention is elsewhere... sneak in unnoticed and take them one at a time...

    this is chess... not checkers...

You make a good point. I just wish we weren't forced to reclaim our rights in a sneaky way. I hate politics

we have a right to bear arms....

not to suppress them... that is not part of the 2nd Amendment... which means it is subject to regulation... it just so happens we got lucky and the government allows us to have them... in most States...

a suppressor is not a firearm... therefore it is not protected under the 2nd Amendment

I myself have no issue with the $200 Tax Stamp or even the convoluted background check process... my only issue is with the time involved... I would care less if I had to pay $200 and submit for the background check but be cleared and go to go within a months time... 4-9 months in unacceptable...

wasn't the whole reason they didn't outright ban them in the first place was because they were classified as a safety feature for a firearm and therefore protected under the second amendment?
