ok clint thanks for the advise i did as you stated w just buffer...BINGO the buffer hits a stop at the rear of my buffer tube......WTF im trying to take it out right now but idk if i can or if it will f up the spring compression...at the back of my buffer tube it is angled....i dont know why but it is....

it looks to be around 1/2'' to 3/4'' thick i held my bcg& buffer together..bolt forward and held it above my boffer tube...PLENTY of room then inserted it and it stops with pretty much no clearance

also what do u think about the crap around my gas block

To verify the spring is the culprit, remove it.

Put ONLY the buffer into the receiver extension tube.
Reassemble the upper and pull the charging handle all the way back.

If you get the .250" clearance, you've found the problem.

Gently bounce the rifle straight down on the flash hider to return the carrier forward and allow removal of the upper.

Then order two quality carbine springs from Bravo Company or G&R Tactical.[/QUOTE]

ok i just cut the back of the buffer about in half... (the white plastic) now i have .250'' with no spring and about .175'' with the spring in....much more clearance then before

also im looking at the bravo company spring and it says mil spec...i have a comercial build does this part matter? can i through a mil spec spring in it.?? thanks i think im going to put a FEW rounds down the tube tomorrow but as things are im not really looking to shoot a lot just want my rifle to work properly

That plastic needs to be there. You have only applied a band-aid.

    Damn...well 2 questions on.that note

First why doe it all have to be there I.cut.it.in half ...

Second where is the problem? Buffer or buffer tube

Because while shopping for buffers it says carbine or rifle...pretty large difference between the two ...

We're still waiting on a build list (incl. manufacturer) of all your components. Could be you bought a low end or out of spec RE. You might have the RE screwed in too far, but I don't know how you would have done that and still managed to assemble it.

The Mystery BCG carrier may be out of spec and too long.

If all else start taking measurements of the buffer from end to end, internal length of the buffer tube to the lower ~ to either the buffer retainer or the face of the lower (take a pic of where you measure that one), and the length of just the carrier.

Ok on my build read the 16th post on the FIRST page ...that's my build and I state I DONT KNOW WHERE THE BUFFER, BUFFER TUBE OR BUFFER SPRING ARE FROM

Also I do not know where to find a spec sheet for a commercial spec carbine that information would be helpful
But it does work now .....

It may be for now, but it may not for long. Get a proper carbine buffer and a proper carbine spring. If any of this is messed up it can put undo stress on your lower and bolt carrier group. If you break either one of these, good luck buying a new one in this political climate.

How many coils does that spring have BTW?

** never mind ** in your previous pic I can see that it has the right number of coils. It's my bet that you have something wrong with your receiver extension.

Here are some measurements to work with from a known good carbine. BCM receiver extension, bolt, bolt carrier, carbine buffer and carbine spring. I don't have my long calipers at home, so this is off a tape measure.

Bolt carrier only- 6 5/8" long
    Bolt carrier/bolt collapsed- 7 1/8"
    Bolt carrier/bolt extended- 7 15/32"
    Carbine buffer- 3 1/4" long
Carbine spring- (1000 rounds on it) 10 3/8", 37 coils
Buffer tube depth measured from actual end of tube- 7" NO OBSTRUCTIONS ALONG THE ENTIRE TUBE.

That plastic piece on the end of the buffer protects the lower and BCG from damage to an extent by absorbing the shock of a worn out spring against the back of the receiver extension. By shortening it you have reduced it to less than the collapsed length of the spring. Now, by removing the plastic you have allowed a metal on metal path from the back of your BCG, through the stacked and collapsed spring, to the end of the receiver extension. By removing that 1/4" you have removed the "safety" clearance to keep your carrier key from striking the top of the receiver extension during recoil. Do yourself a favor. Take your BCG and lower in hand. Press your bolt carrier into the buffer tube, with spring and buffer in place, It should stop roughly 1/4" before the carrier key strike the receiver extension.

Anyone want to correct me on this? I'm no expert on spring and buffer failures because I haven't ever let them get that far. I just figure all this out by sitting here with a disassemble carbine.

BTW, G&R Tactical has buffers and springs in stock.
